When Did You First Go Online?

I'm enjoying your answers!

LostConnection- I thought you are a lot older.

W130- I thought you are a youngster.

Shows what I know.

Ahh the long wait for the solitary porn pic download.... What a bummer that was.

I got busted by a young girl around 1995. Was pulling up porn in the college computer lab. I'll never forget the look on her face!

No, unfortunately I am an old git but my mental age is that of a teenager who has just got his first pube.

Around 1996 - my mom bought a modem with speed 28.8 kbps. Lol

1997 when I bought a dial up connection from a company here in my country. Damn I had to wait a long time until the internet was working, and I remember I found a site where you could chat with people from your country, something like Yahoo Messenger chat.

And I remember being angry at the PC for not loading the site properly, also the dial up connection was dropping all the time, I had like 15 minutes to chat with a person then the dial up connection broke, so I had to connect again, it was really frustrating.

If I'm not mistaking, this was the phone I used to conenct to the Internet with. I am not that good at mobile phones anyway.

me 1993 if I'm right. When a house and a computer cost the same amount of money in my part of the world.

Wow!

In my military work in the 80's I must have been around the early development of the internet with NORAD, but I had no knowledge of it.

I wonder if anyone in the internet infancy had a clue of what it would become? I wonder if we now have any idea what it will be in 30 years?

It was either 1997 or 1998, I first got a computer in Dec. 1998 and used the internet at home. But I'm not sure if I had used the internet at school before that.

I don't remember the exact year, but it was when I was at university. I remember looking at two of my friends, who were sitting next to each other, and e-mailing each other. I thought, if that is the future of technology, leave me out.

A few months later, some other friends talked me into taking a look. We found an empty computer room, went online, and one of my friends asked me for a search term. My first ever search... "tits". I have been hooked ever since.

been using internet since 2005 (internet coffees) but got an internet connection around 2010 I guess

I guess on my school days i went to net cafe for playing video games online. it was around 1996.. ha ha ha

Internet at home in 1996, maybe as early as 94 in school or friends house. Great days for online gaming when someone goes to make a call:eek:

1995 or so, if I remember correctly. Gateway computer with dial up Aol lol. God I don't miss those sounds..

Pretty sure I started in the early 90's playing Doom over the good old dial-up modem's. Prodigy, AOL, and Compuserve came shortly there after for anyone who remembers those. I remember printing AP reports for sports thinking I was some serious newscaster because I could access them. LOLOL.

The first time I went online was in 1982/1983 with an Acorn Electron and Pace Nightingale Modem
There was no Internet then but you could dial into Bulletin Boards, Prestel and University Computers.

Always wondered how this 'dial in' worked. Like you dial up into a message board ? Care to explain ? :)

I remember reading a book many many years ago which was a story of a guy who hacked into phone lines and things you mentioned. It was an amazingly fascinating book, the name of which i have forgotten now.
