Where to buy a custom e-mail?

My apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong section, but I didn't know where else to put it ^^.

I am looking for a custom e-mail (something(at)something.com), but everywhere I look I have to buy a domain w/ hosting / extra features etc...

A domain may be needed, but where can I buy a domain /w custom e-mail without all the other hassle? It is very frustrating to see you have to pay for a lot of stuff you know you are not going to use anyway... ><

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out! If possible just a custom e-mail (+ domain), not the extra hosting/ security features (I won't need security for a site if I don't have hosting?).

You need to buy the domain something.com. No way to get around this. Then you can use a service like zoho.com for a personal email (it's free for personal use).

you can get a .tk domain which you can host on 000webhost's free plan, both are free, then you can set up your new email address through cPanel which will have limited capabilities of course

if you want a .com, you need to pay for it though

generally if you don't know where to post a thread, just start it in the lounge

Thank you for your reply! I am willing to buy a domain, I'm not that poor , but I hate having to pay for services like extra hosting/ security and pay $5/10 a month for something I'm not going to use... Zoho looks like a pretty solid site, but are you sure it's only for personal use?

The standard package is $2.50 a month which I can link to my domain, if it's also for business use it would be perfect .

Would it be possible to combine the .tk website with one of those plans from Zoho? It would be great if that would mean a free domain + .com custom e-mail for $2.50 a month .

nope, you need to pay for the .com domain i'm afraid
look for coupons before purchasing the domain, they get posted on coupon sites or sometimes here too, so you can get it cheap

Hmm oke, not that big of a deal .

Would it be possible (/ a good plan) to buy the site via Godaddy, delete all the extra security hassle (costing extra) and pay €7 on top of the €1.50 domain fee and make it "a private domain"? Or is the extra security really needed in the end (I do not plan to do anything with the domain other than link it to an e-mail).

+ for the e-mail then buy Zoho's e-mail service voor $2.50 a month instead of Godaddy's €3.59 a month (w/ less features compared to Zoho).

I am pretty sure GoDaddy do an email service - you get offered it when you buy the domain. Taking that up would mean you didnt have to worry about any of the "ins and outs".

Godaddy does indeed have an e-mail service, but it pretty much offers the same/less compared to Zoho, what do you mean with ins/outs?

@david355 , Yes godaddy have a feature of custom email and you can also go with xtraorbit and dynadot, they both have options of custom emails.

IMO, you should buy domain (name.com/ namecheap.com) for the first one use PRIVACYPLEASE for free 1 year domain privacy, then attach gmail.com with it. Search in google for A records to use in DNS settings. This is what I use.

Hmm is this true? Gmail says I can link a professional custom gmail acc with name(at)domainname.com without hosting.

Isn't the "make your domain private" option for €7 "domain privacy"? Also thank you for confirming the Gmail option . I will look for A records to use in the DNS settings. ^^

Once you buy the domain, Freehostia will allow you to set up 3 private emails for free. The only downside to this is that you cannot use SMTP, so you would only be able to receive emails, not send them. I know that if you purchase their cheapest hosting package ($27 a year), this limit gets lifted.

I will consider the different domain/email services, but in the end all I need is godaddy+ private domain option or name.com + whois security ---> + link custom e-mail for couple $ per month (Gmail/Zoho/Freehostia)? If this is correct/ someone can confirm it, I will set it up as soon as possible! ^^

Like someone has mentioned, gmail is your best option for this. I've used it for a few domains and its awesome.
