HELP!! Paypal account $2000 negative. Soc Sec # attached.

You have to pay Paypal $2,000 or you will be permanently banned from ever using their service again.

However, you can dispute the chargeback through the Paypal Resolution Centre if you can prove that you delivered the product that was accurately described to your customer. This means keeping an accurate record of all email correspondences between you and your customer, a copy of the product you delivered.

If you delivered an honest product to your customer, then don't let them get away with an unwarranted chargeback. This is stealing even when the product is digital, and people who do this to small businesses deserve much worse than having a chargeback disputed. If, however, you overcharged them and scammed your customer, then you deserve the -$2,000 balance in your Paypal account.

Paypal is horrible when it comes to customer service. Although with that being said, I've heard stories where as long as you're consistently telling them you were scammed and offer as much evidence as you can, you could possibly be refunded months later.

Since your social security is attached, it will affect your credit. I had a similar issue before and owed Paypal this much. You can wait until it hits collections and settle it for cheaper. The main point is that you owe them the money and there is nothing you can say or do to make it go away.

The guy did a charge back through his credit card.... its not a paypal dispute. Paypal likes to act like a bank but the truth of the matter is they are not a bank and are not run by the same laws. They will not get their money back and so they will not allow him to get his money back. This is why it is so dangerous to use them and why I will never give them my SS#. I had a similar experience with Fiverr and charge backs months later and the big companies (paypal / fiverr) don't care about wrong or right... a real bank (the credit card company) took their money and they don't want to be the ones who take the loss. :/

As for whether or not it will effect your credit... it all depends on whether or not the account gets sent to a collection agency. If you do not need your credit... let it go. My sister owed 10K to her college and she never paid... 7 years later... its offer her credit record. Personally I own a new car and my home....so I would just make them eat it since I am not going to need a loan any time soon. But I guess it depends on your situation.

Sometimes you just gotta cut your losses man! Paypal has screwed me over about $700 in virtual goods due to scumbags, just find another paygate to deal with and you'll have no problem.

I know the customer filed the chargeback through their credit card, although Paypal still directs people who have received a chargeback to dispute this through the Paypal Resolution Centre in their Paypal Chageback FAQ section mentioned under "How will PayPal let me know a chargeback has been filed against me?". I say that if he can dispute it, then it's worth a try, especially if he plans on using Paypal in the future (and to avoid having to pay them $2,000).

I can see why you think Paypal acts like a bank though, just reading their FAQ section shows that.:)

So just an update :) ....... Called paypal, said I sold a virtual currency via craigslist and a whole month later they filed a chargeback and scammed me. Said I was worried about my credit score and will pay it if I have too. They were super nice and said that this person was doing a lot of chargebacks and was being investigated and then he removed my negative balance. He did say the credit card company my still try to reverse it or something within 80 days or something.

Hey, well that's great! It looks like I was right about contacting Paypal! For now, I would suggest on at least saving $2,000 just in case the credit card company does manage to reverse the disputed chargeback, although I doubt they'll be successful if the credit card owner was a serial-chargebacker.

By the way, what section of Craigslist did you sell a digital product in? I had always assumed that digital products were not allowed to be sold on Craigslist, or is that only applicable to digital affiliate products?

Thanks :) I just post in the computer gigs section. Get flagged alot but if you keep refreshing the page on your post I heard it's harder to flag the more views it has, seems to work. If I refresh the page 100 times, it doesn't get flagged till the next day. If I just post no refreshing, it gets flagged immediately. FYI: I was selling Bitcoin, when I talked to paypal, I just said virtual currency since I know Bitcoin gets a bad rap.

I once sold a virtual item through paypal, (runescape rare item) and a few weeks later the person filed a dispute claiming he never got the item.
Little did he know that I took screenshots of every part of the transaction of my character giving him the item and I even used his characters name in the paypal transaction.
When I called paypal, at first they claimed that they do not care about virtual item sales, but after seeing all my evidence, they then reversed the dispute and gave me the funds back.
The guy even told me that I did an outstanding job to cover my ass and show that the person got what they paid for.

However, a few years later, someone scammed me out of $300 claiming the unauthorized CC charge scam.
This was my cousins girlfriend who did it.
She bought something off me and paid me through paypal and her CC.
I called paypal and even told them I had more than enough proof that she lied about the unauthorized CC charge and had talked to our courts prosecutor and he wanted me to come in and file charges against her.
Paypal told me that they did not care about that and regardless if I proved my case with the courts, they still would not reactive my account, even if I did pay them back.

So I told them to fuck off and let the whole thing go.
I had already spent the money and was not actually out anything but the paypal account, and my credit is already in shambles from hospital bills.

The thing is though, I created a brand new paypal, with my same name but a different birthday and it even became verified.
I then linked a prepaid paypal card you buy at walgreens to access the money I made, then about a year later, I added my real SSI to it, changed the birthday to the correct one and applied for their debit card and I now have that and been using it ever since.
I even added my bank account and its debit card.
