$5000 a month from Kindle in 1 year

Hey guys,

I tried a similar journey a year ago, but back then college kept me busy, and I didn't have the money to outsource, so I couldn't continue the journey.

Now, though minimal, I have some budget, mostly from freelancing jobs I do online, so I've decided to give another shot at Kindle.

I currently have 3 books published on Kindle - 2 non-fiction and 1 fiction (not erotica), all enrolled in KDP. I have 8 more written, but I want to see how these do before publishing them.

One of them is under free promotion right now. Today is the second day of promotion.

My VA says she's been promoting extensively, so let's see where it goes, though I'm not sure if the amount of downloads I'm getting is normal. 164 the first day (Sunday) and 113 so far today (Monday) and my sales ranking is at 1300ish in the Kindle free section.

2 people borrowed my book, so I'll count that as sales.

So far,

Books published: 3
Sales so far: 2 (borrows)
Downloads for first book: 277 (on second day)

Hopefully, things will improve, and I'd love to hear from you guys.

Do they make it free... and then after the promotion period make it a pay book?

Its actually 5 days. Ya, they make it free and then the book goes back to its paid status after the stipulated promotion time. You can choose the number of days to promote though. The maximum allowed is 5 days.

Not really, not much promotion other than what my VA did. She basically submitted the book to different free book submission sites.

Ya, outsourcing can be a pain. I had some full time writers who I use for my clients' works (I own a writing business) and I used them for my books.

Getting quality content is what stopped me back when I wanted to start with Kinda Publishing.

After I establish other consistent sources of income I'll probably give it a real shot.

OP, you need a LOT of eBooks to earn $5K/month. Something like 100-200 eBooks (unless one of the books becomes reaaaaly popular), and these books need good design, fair content and good formatting. Now, calculate how much will cost you to create one eBook and then multiply this figure by 200.....you still wanna do this journey?

Why not? I was aiming for 100 books anyway (an average of 10 books a month once I figure out how to get the sales going). So yes, I do want this journey. Invested too much money and time in this to back out now.

Will you continue if the venture is unprofitable in 12 months or 24 months?
You need to know when to cut your losses.

There is nothing wrong with sharing tips and advises here on BHW. There are people who share stuff about Kindle and I'm among those people but sharing some extremely valuable tips and doing review exchanges are not smart thing to do on such a big forum. Say what you want, but almost all methods that are shared on BHW got saturated or ruined pretty quickly. Now they require huge twists from anyone who is trying them.

However, you are welcomed to join us on Skype if you want to share or hear something valuable. I'm slowly trying to build up a group about Kindle on Skype where we can share tips and also do some kind of review exchanges.

Of course, I do have a limit. I know how much I can spend, time and money wise. But, I'm not going to give up prematurely. I've done that a lot before, but now that I have a responsibility to make something of myself (I'm out of college, as I said), I can't give up on things too soon.

Kindle takes time, I know. But I also know that I can realistically expect to make some sales after I finish the free promotion, maybe not a lot, but at least a handful.

Ok guys, an update:

My book had about 276 free downloads in the second day.

No reviews yet, though my VA is working on a few review exchanges.

#870ish free sales rank and #5 and #11 for my 2 categories.

Hopefully, things will pick up.

Once this promotion is over, I'll start promotion for the remaining 2 books a week or two later, so we'll have enough time to promote the books.
