Hi,

I registered an .org EMD domain which was expired, however it has been active from 2006 to 2013. I checked the backlinks and it seems to have none even if it was an active online shop 2006-2013. So, should the age of the domain help me in SEO? In which way? The site content would be in the same niche as before, but I don't know if I should set the online shop under this domain or use it just to push some other domain. Thanks.

This domain can't make the difference if there isn't solid backlink profile.
Only with the age you can't do a lot. For Seo purposes is useless.

The only reason to buy expired domains can be the strong backlink profile or cool brand name for you.
If it do not have these features you just threw your money.

Try to check storical index in MajesticSeo to check all old backlinks.

Hi, thanks for comments. Well it does have backlinks: I checked it in google and did find some links, however they are difficult to see because first 1-5 search pages display only domain tools. When writing the post I checked it with BacklinkwatchCOM, which was finding no link, obviously they exist. Perhaps the links do not show up so easy because the website was inactive/down in recent time.

You bought an expired domain so the age factor is no more relevant. People buy expired domains in only 2 conditions:
1. If the name is brilliant,
2. If the backlink profile is strong.

Put up a site on domain and slowly crawlers will pick up the backlinks.

No this isn't the problem. Sign up for a free MajesticSeo account and see the backlinks in Historical Index.
You0ve to check also the anchor texts (Majestic Seo too) and check that this domain was't abused from previous spam activities.

Not only you get backlinks with the domain. You also can start rather aggressive SEO for the site from the start. With a new domain, you would need to wait a few month staying under radar, otherwise sandbox welcomes you.

Ok, thanks. The MajesticSeo profile looks like this:
-74 external links (for half of them it says "Deleted", the others are mostly nofollow.)
-from 5 domains (forums)
-anchor text is always the main URL with 3 versions: with www, without www, and / ending.

So, it does not have a strong link profile, but there are a few valid links from topic-related domains. Let's see how it performs...

Expired domains lose their age the moment they get dropped from registry.

There are different kinds of age.
The age of "continuous unceasing site life" is lost when domain drops. But who cares??
The age of the domain registration, the age of its backlinks is still here and goes nowhere.

I am talking about the age of domain registration that is otherwise known as whois age.

That age is known as one of the factors that Google uses in ranking.

if the domain wasn't used as network and it there is no spam on that so it is perfect.
Depends also past activities, age etc

I understand all points of view, it's normal that if the domain has been deleted for a couple of years, it would not have all the power that could have if not discontinued.

So, when gurus in BHW talk about buying good old domain for a new project, do they mean they buy non-expired domains? What kind of domains they buy? Active parked domains with no links? Domains which had a website and a strong link profile that are on sale?

The best thing is backorder domains when they expires or buy them after they have expired after a few days and should be indexed.
Otherwise, if you are not experienced in the retrieve, you risk throwing money.

Good old domain are all domains that are expiring after a lot of time online.

If you only have 1 domain, it's not going to help you much if you don't have multiple ones for a pbn. If you are going to use it to build a money site on it, the history can be helpful but if you have a bunch of deleted links and no follows than it may not help you at all.

Ok, thanks. Well I bought this domain because it was shown in a website for expired domains search, so I don't know if it expired just the day I bought it or a little before. And it included my keywords so the name is perfect, however it is a .org. The link profile is quite bad, but it has a few old links from forums. My idea is to test the market with this domain, just as a beginning test.

I had a better luck with new domains as of now, I can build the backlink profile the way I want, I take things slow considering my entire project to be long term.

But if you're looking for an old domain then make sure that it doesn't have any crappy backlinks and the PA and DA should be at the very least 20+ each.

If the domain has no seo value then age doesn't mean anything at all. Sometimes buying aged domain is risky. I once got an expired domain with some backlinks I thought It would be good as it is already have very good presence in google. I made a nice site (not anything spam) when I added it to my ad network site, they listed it as spam, then I contact them and they said it was used to spam previously that's why I was blocked and they unblocked, I am doing good with that site but still banned in some forums lol. Its good to buy new domain as there is plenty of new gtlds out there but if I like any name which is not available for new ones then I go for it.
