Registering Anonymous Website Domain

Hi to all,

I've read on here that for places like Namecheap, registering any ol' information for the Whois portion of the checkout phase is fine, but is that true for the virtual credit card as well? Meaning, if I purchased something like an nFinance card or whatever other VCC, can I just find some random person's name and address online, use that information to register the card (preferably) online and then add that same exact information to the final Namecheap checkout process (where it asks me for my credit card info) and all would be fine? I'm assuming it would work and keep me anonymous, but instead of going through the hassle of buying, registering, etc, figured I'd ask you guys first. Would appreciate any help I could get.

p.s. My objective is to do a bit more than protect myself from prying eyes - I want to be above-average secure, but not I'm-doing-something-illegal secure.

We all know that you're an existing member with a new (possibly fake)account. Likewise, anyone can pull your real info even if you use the fake information on whichever registry. Whois protection is just a sales gimmick after all.

I don't know why I'm surprised at your paranoia, FBG, and though I'm quite certain nothing I say will convince you of this (not that I need to prove myself to you), but I've never been on this board before. I'm just trying to create a politically-infused website and I don't want some jackass who may be stupid enough to seek me out in real life, to look up my name and try to find me. That's it.

Plus, I've seen threads like this posted a million times, with tons of very helpful replies. I'm not sure why my thread is being targeted.

If you're smart enough to register on a community and post a thread without any introduction, I thought you'd be well aware of the quite sensitive atmosphere here. Its not just you but anyone who registered and posts a thread will ring the bell to many of us especially when using acronyms like VCC that not newbies are aware of. Thats whole another topic.

Coming back to your OP, by "anyone" I meant anyone who is concerned to track you down can do so provided they're really serious about finding you and are willing to spend some money. We all leave some traces somewhere on the WWW and again thats a whole different topic. Its easy to mask your real identity to an average internet user though.

My 2 cents :

• namecheap accepts BTC so buy some BTC with that VCC and use a fake name and address. You can easily generate one from here : http://www.fakenamegenerator.com
• Go with any extension like .si/.se/.to but .com/.net/.org if you're from US.
• Choose an offshore hosting from germany or the netherlands.

Make sure you do this all behind a proxy service.

I see what you're saying now. Yea', I'd done my research, like I said, because I know how annoying it must get having people ask the same questions over and over again. I'd read enough of those threads that I guess I may have picked up on the whole "VCC" thing - though I'm big on abbreviations so I probably would have used that anyway.

I plan on doing the following (which in whole is completely unnecessary, but I find the whole process very interesting, so I don't mind learning about anonymity):

1) Paying cash for nFinance card (no trace)

2) Using random name and address to register card online (no trace)

3) Using Tor and WiFi (not my own - local library, etc) to register both card and Namecheap domain. (no trace)

Using this method, I don't quite see how anyone could identity me. Not saying it's impossible, but I wonder how they would, if they could.

Oh, and I'm just planning on buying the domain name - no hosting - and then forwarding the site to blogs I'll be creating. Not sure if that matters, but figured I'd disclose that information.

I registered a domain on yohost. They don't ask for any personal info and let me use vccs. I bought 2 domains with them and it's been good so far. Just make sure you hide your IP and that covers just about everything.

I don't know about your public libraries, but where I live they ask for an license or other ID so that you can use their computer. So if they ask you this and you register public WIFI with your ID, then you're still trackable.

webwars: Forgot to mention that I'll be using a tablet (with Tor) to buy the domain. And considering most libraries have a "Guest" option available for everyone to use, I won't be providing any personal info.

Now I don't have much on there (less than $50), but is it dumb to call this place and try to get it unlocked so that I can use the remainder of my balance? Meaning, call them up, tell them I'm the guy the Fake Name Generator generated, have them unlock the thing and then use it? Is it that simple or am I asking for trouble? My gut says forgot it, but I'd like to know what the collective wisdom of the board has to say.

You bought the site(domain?) but what are you trying to register again? I dont remember any of the registrars asking for the SSN.

Yea', I did. I went with Yohost (as 0_00_0 suggested) and they didn't ask me for a SSN, but the VCC website (when I tried to register the card online) did ask me. So I applied the generated number and it didn't go through. Which, again, is why I think they locked it.

You shall contact them and see what they say but if you want SSN, you can get in touch with "secondeye". He provides documents for stealth paypal documents so I believe he could help with this.

I don't think I'll need to provide it. I'll just tell them I want to withdraw the money and see what they have to say. They only needed the SSN if I wanted to have a name associated with the card, but after having registered with Yohost (which didn't require me to provide a name, just the card number, etc), that option is no longer necessary.

I build a lot of private blog networks, so I need different names. I just go buy visa gift cards, you don't need to submit information for a gift card. Therefore you can use any info for hosting and domain names because a lot of hosting companies accept gift cards.
