This is pretty messed up to do this to people. These guys are paying the homeless to sign up for cellphone contracts and then ditch them while taking the phones and the people are left in huge amounts of debt.

With that said, it is CRAZY the lengths that some scammers will go to make $$$. I was watching a dateline episode last night of some has been famous rapper from the 90's named "Tim Dog". And he use to prey on single mothers, and execute a rather ingenious scam on them.

As low as I think the guy is.... I must admit I was rather impressed by the way he managed to survive. Cause this guy was 1 ugly SOB. But he somehow managed to consistently bang THEN scam very attractive women. Like he'd date multiple women at the same time, have sex with them, draw them into a very well executed "business deal", then somehow extort them for healthy sums of money between $15k-$30k.

And the craziest part is this guy got away with it his entire life. He never spent a day in jail and went his entire live sexing and scamming hot single mothers.

are u kidding me here buddy, that mean u support someone to go and scam the hell out of them, you can just know there IQ level and lazyness by the fact that they are homeless, and they depend on others to provide them the basic necessities. all we need to do is help them either by providing these necessities or either make them able to earn these by themself's.

are u kidding me here buddy, that mean u support someone to go and scam the hell out of them, you can just know there IQ level and lazyness by the fact that they are homeless, and they depend on others to provide them the basic necessities. all we need to do is help them either by providing these necessities or either make them able to earn these by themself's.

all im saying is homeless people are street smart , if they found a cell phone on the ground they would know exactly how much its worth. some might even turn it in to the police while others will trade it for 10$ crack, even though they "could" sell it on CL for $300. In this case i don't think they were scammed. They were given an opportunity to make cash and they knew what they were doing,, you dont just go into a store and buy 8 cell phones and then say you're the victim. So why dont they take the phones and sell them for $600 each? well maybe they dont have the cash to buy the phones at $100 each,, but they still have 2 choices, they can take the money and JOIN the scam or they can decline the offer. If the scammers lied to the homeless and said they were signing papers for housing or something and then went and bought cell phones without them knowing then yes that would be scam. But in these case I say they willingly participated in the scheme to rip off the cell phone companies, and good for them because f-ck the greedy anti net neutrality service providers. Hey, they could have taken that $100 and bought jr vip and then maybe they wouldnt be homeless anymore,, who needs credit when you can pay everything in cash and stay in nice hotels with good lamps!

You sir, have a one sided mind & opinion. Sure there are homeless people who got themselves in that situation because of drugs or are addicted to them now. That is not the situation with all of them. Some of them got hit by the recession, some got hit when then housing market crashed, or even when their stock plummeted.

People who scam the homeless deserve to have everything they own taken from them. Then they can see how it feels to jump from shelter to shelter while begging for change. At the same time, seeing how much $1 can change their day. Fuck them.

I bet that the majority(over 60%) of those that participated were NOT scammed but they were taken advantage of.
They knew the consequences and accepted them. If you haven't eaten in 3 days, you may not care about possible future repercussions.
If you are desperate you will do things to survive that you may not do in other circumstances.
Along with the orchestrator of the operation, questions should be asked of the store owners and credit companies, as they took advantage of those people as much as he did.
People who take advantage of the weak and vulnerable deserve a hammer to the balls.

The vast majority of homeless people have been let down by anyone that could or should have helped them at any stage in their life. Most have experienced homelessness from a young age, Many(20% in London) are ex military, many just have straight mental issues and nobody to care for them or a government that doesnt want to add more sick people onto the live register to bulk the negative statistics.

Scumbag phone companies running up contracts on holding houses and well known shelters should have to eat that debt.

I am sure there is complicitness. If you are homeless but respectable enough to work a phone will be the only way you can get a job hence the appeal. Also if I was sleeping on the bricks the thoughts of destroying my credit score wouldnt be at the forefront of mind when getting some cash.

well there are many type of homeless, i think many here are feeling sorry for the good guy hobo, disabled, or out of luck type ,,,, but there are also the robbing, theiving, break into your car to steal your change, and try you sell you bus passes that were bought with stolen credit card types ... there are many type of homeless, they are not all just innocent victims

never lived on the street but in a van for 6 months and I have helped many homeless and buy them coffee and food and give them money and cigs and drove one old stinky guy around to bars and bought him drinks but have also been robbed by some guy i bought food for,and seen a kid get jumped for his bike and another time a guy got stabbed, and also a lot of homeless prey on other homeless so it aint all flowers they do much id theft and food stamp scams aswell,, but i dont even really care about all that, all im saying is i think these homeless were smart enough to know what they were doing when they went in the store and got a bunch of cell phones, and were fine with taking the cash
