I looked around at all the different categories for good book ideas. The problem was, every good idea I had was quickly becoming saturated. There were books being released every day in these niches. Pretty much what everyone, everywhere is recommending people do to become successful with Kindle.

Some niches there were literally 2 or 3 releases every day. That niche is going to be saturated, fast. Having to find 5 or 10 niches to operate in -- ones that aren't saturated -- is going to be very difficult.

Is this something that concerns you all? Or have I just found niches that are particularly saturated, and there are better ones out there? You might not even be worried about cometitor books, but it would be good to hear your thoughts on it.

Beyond the saturation problem, my biggest concern was the performance of these (seemingly identical) books. Because they were so similar in length, quality and cover quality, it was hard to tell which book was 'better'. Despite this, some were ranked well, at #20,000 and others not so well, #200,000. That's quite a difference in sales numbers for an almost identical product (and because of their similarity I'm guessing they were all following a similar promotional strategy).

Some of you have very impressive figures, which you have maintained for over 5 books. As many of you outsource, probably from the same writer pool, there is no reason why your books would be of a higher quality than some of the other outsourced books.

Why do you think yours have performed better? Do you think, to a certain degree, this is luck? Will you rank high long term?

Considering the books are nearly identical in content/cover/title quality, the only things separating them would be the rating and the number of free giveaway sites that it has been posted to. And don't worry about saturation because some books like kids books and romance novels/erotica will always have buyers wanting to read new stuff. As long as you know your market it will sell.

i published a book on a while ago that was not set up on kindle as suggested in this thread, I have changed it for the kindle settings suggested, KDP program, giving away free for 5 days, better description with keywords and set up my author page (sorta so far)

I am getting book #2 ready, hopefully by the end of this weekend.

One thing I have not seen on this thread is the suggestion of 'look inside' or not. Anyone finding if offering the sneak peak helps or hurts or doesn't make a difference? Would be interesting to know.

Look inside is incredibly valuable. So valuable that I highly suggest removing the bloat at the front of your book to make room for quality content so that viewers using this feature are MUCH more likely to pick up your book.
 
Can anyone give me an approximate sales to rank examples? What would someone ranking 14000 be making vs 8000 and such.

Just go to KDPcalculator you can see how many books roughly that author is selling.
look up on google the kdpcalculator (I am not allowed to post URLs yet or would put it here for you)

my first book has ended day one of free promo:
Current Sales Rank: #343 in Kindle Store with 700+ dloads on day 1
oh and no reviews yet from day 1 and i did advertise the 'free' book thing a lil on facebook

not very high at all in its book category (40k ish) .. which I can not seem to drill down in and I do not know why, has me in the main category and no way to to pick the sub categories, this happen to anyone else?

I think like anything else you would do in online marketing, you need to stand out, and have your unique selling point ... be better than them somehow ... and it will not be as difficult as you think.

plus every single published kindle book will not be using the method on this thread

I'll answer this again after i get 10 books up there. :)

50,000 - 100,000 1 sale per day
10,000 - 50,000 3 - 15 sales per day
4,500 - 10,000 15 - 25 sales per day
3,000 - 4,500 25 - 50 sales per day
500 - 3,000 50 - 200 sales per day
350 - 500 200 - 300 sales per day
100 - 350 300 - 500 sales per day

I sell all mine a $2.99, my best books sell about 25 per day, my good books 6-10 and my average 2-3.

Thats actually still pretty huge numbers considering.. thanks for this.

I wrote an ebook and recently listed it on amazon. I will follow the tricks mentioned in your updates. Will work for sure.

My books are mostly fiction. But people make money with both.

Fiction is easier to sell / harder to write. Non fiction harder to sell / easier to write.
 
Very interesting. I'm naturally a very good writer so I'm gonna give this a shot.

Everything is always much harder than it sounds but this doesn't sound like it should be that difficult.

Will update in a few weeks when I got some books up. :)

My book is 30 words long. And still not very good :p
 
Congrats on selling 25 copies a day on some of your books. How many books do you have up?

This is exactly why I like non fiction :)

It's just so much easier to find the right topics, gather resources, put it together, move on to the next one.

I have 3 books released. 2 of them are still on their 5 day promotion. The other just got off it today. No $$$ sales yet.

My first book was getting 10-20 downloads a day when it was free, and was ranked in the in the top 10,000 for all 5 days. Now that it's on sale for money, though, it just fell off the grid.
