Google "waiting period" after May 14 payday update?

It's probably Google's good ol' commercial-site sensing algorithm. It decides a site is commercial and down it goes the adwords candidate row.

This just answered that if you have some quality articles without any affiliate links/bullshit advertising YET. Rank the content first and then insert your money making stuff. Not sure if this would work but worth a try.

I've setup a new website a month and a half ago with quality content and build some links to it. It should get at least some visitors from Google by now but it didn't. This has never happen to me before, but now Google is waiting for so much time. There is obviously something new implemented in their algo, but I am just wondering how much time will last. They show only old, outdated info to the public - this doesn't make any sense.

I wonder how this would affect the freshness factor, guess it would be more appropriate for them to rank ecommerce sites late, but what about review based websites and promotional offers? Will they rank what is appropriate now after three months?

That is the meat 'n potatoes of early site SEO ;)

PS. And if you stay commercial-free long enough, you get extra SEO credits. If they added Adsense to Wikipedia today, it'd make a million dollars per hour(edited: well I guess not, but for rhetorical purposes, it would ;) ).

Also, on my "white hat" page (1.3 years old) I made a new blog and it ranked with in a few days at #11, with zero SEO pointing to that blog post.

The guy who showed his rnakings above (cant be bothered to scorll for the quote) also was using pbn. CONCLUSION? PBN PWNS ALL!!!! :P

These feels like the last stand of the third reich. Encircled on both sides by the reds and allies we retreat to our bunkers giving our last hopeless theories.

Oh for an update from me, I have had a cpl of jumps, of 5 or so places on 1 or two kws which is a HUGE victory these days :P posisiton 95-90 woohooo!

So guys what about onpage SEO do you all have that covered cos that has certainly been lacking in my corner. Ive upped my game recently in that area but G cache hasnt updated yet.

One problem with that comment is that the commenter says it now takes 5 months to rank sites. Last I checked, it's been about 1.5 months since the update.

I'd take everything on that page/site with a grain of salt.

I was the person that left that comment. I don't believe the person that said they have a site ranking top 3 that was launched in May unless it's just a freak high-traffic keyword that doesn't have any competition. You can still rank for really easy stuff in a month or so. The reason i said 5 months (for competitive keywords) is because all sites launched after February took a dump around May 20th, whereas sites where link building started on or before February are doing OK. There's an initial jump after 30-45 days, but usually to page 2 or 3 where it just splutters around doing nothing, and sometimes disappearing completely for another couple of months. Most sucky update ever but can totally see why Google would do it.

I bought 2 brandnew domains about one month ago and two weeks ago I added content on it (4-5 pages). They got indexed on rank 150-200 during one night and then I started building fresh high pr web 2.0 and I could see improvings during 48 hours.

But as I posted before, I had the same problem with another website. I also opened a few threads, because of that problem at beginning of june.

I built a mini-authority site between early april-late may that targeted about ~120k m/s worth of medium competition keywords. The pages are organized in a perfect silo structure with phpbuilt's recommended keyword density and 4 in-category interlinks. In all, the site has 141 pages of high quality content now (roughly 80,000 words)

Literally every keyword is on page 4 and 5 right now, with some longtails on page 2/3, and none of them have really moved for 3 weeks

I'm in a very similar spot right now. I made a thread a little while ago wondering why all of my keywords went from page 2 to page 5+. All the links were aged high pr web2.0 with handwritten content. Hopefully once the pages age a bit they should start moving up? I have been letting the site settle a little bit to gauge any movement. I have noticed gradual improvements over the last few weeks without link building.

In the niches I watch most sites ranking have been registered a couple years ago and have very few links. Something is definitely wrong with the algorithm. Sites are ranking mostly on domain age rather than links from my observation.

I can deffinitely say as i am selling services here i track lotssss of keywords of my clients. Without looking at onpage seo on every keyword that has little or more competition Google delays the ranking for 3-4 weeks or sometimes more. On the other hand long tail keywords are ranking in about 2 weeks. It was like 3-4 days before update.
Addition to that I am %100 sure Google doesn't give new websites that honeymoon phase like it did before. I see old authority sites make way better progress with subpages than emd sites. But i couldn't crack the code for aged sites unfortunately. 2 sites with really similar metrics - age, backlink profile etc. 1 ranks 20th spot after you add a page for a longtail keyword, the other one ranks at 6th page. But there is 1 thing in similar. When you throw in backlinks they tend to lose rank for a period of time. It is realllllyyyyy random like rolling dice.

The guys at NoHatSEO.com noticed this way before the PayDay update. The SandBox is real now, and the higher the number of monthly searches you're going after the longer it seems to take to rank.

Alright, here is what I have noticed for a very competitive keyword in our country:

Our inner page on a 'white hat' domain goes from position #19 to nowhere to be seen together with a couple
of other domains. Then it comes back and it disappears again. Almost like an off and on switch that removes
this particular page together with the other domains.

My page is the only page that would be considered white hat, the other sites that disappear are full of SAPE links.
When my page and the other black hat sites are gone, the SERP is clean from spam, only full of legit sites.

If we take into consideration that this is an automatic algorithm, there are only two things that my page has in common
with the black hat domains:
1. The link building started in May or later.
2. The domains are less than 3 months old.

That's it, hence the key must lie there somewhere.

I would also like to point out some other interesting points:

1. We disappear for the specific keyword, but not long tail combinations including the keyword. This adds fuel
to the theory that the filter is keyword related.

2. This is the only inner page that is affected. Other inner pages still rank for their respective keywords, which
would also add fuel to the theory of a keyword related filter, rather than a niche related one.

What is paradoxal at the moment, is that people that wouldn't have stood a chance in hell to rank before, now have
great positions. I see people having like 20 link directory links that were added 2 years ago and they hold top 5 positions
for crazy difficult keywords.

Will be following this thread with great interest.

Similar thing happened to one of my sites.
1) Site less than 3 months old.
2) Started linkbuilding in April.

A keyword with volume disappeared on and off and has come back higher for the past 4 days for home page.
A few keywords with 0 volume never disappeared for home page.

So it does look to be keyword related in this case.

I had a brand new site on an aged (high value) domain index today, and debuted at #22. It's powered by a few dozen PBN links, and the keyword has <1k searches per month...

It's looking more and more like the higher the search volume, the longer the delay OR 'the further from page' 1 the delay.

So maybe an idea would be to also target some buying long tail keywords during the waiting period so at least some traffic could be obtained?

I had a similar thing happen to me recently. May 14 one of my sites dropped from page 1 to page 6. They pretty much sat on page 6 and 7 until 4 days ago where now I'm on page 2. I thought it was a bit crazy as I haven't done a damn thing to it, no link building or content changes.

I'm going to make a guess: that site had been indexed in the few months prior May 14, and had been ranking on page 1 for less than a month?
