Google "waiting period" after May 14 payday update?

This would make perfect sense. I've been trying to rank a new site I made for the past 2 months and it's for a SUPER easy keyword. How easy? The top ranking site has 10 backlinks. It's 7 months old and 4 of those backlinks are dead, social bookmarks with the keyword "hardcore xxx porn" (not kidding and it's not a porn niche lol) and the other 2 are Web 2.0 with 100 or less words of content. The other sites are either just like that or worse. As soon as I made the site I was rank 18 then start link building and hit about 14 before I drop like a rock and have Never recovered.

Idk if you guys are stuck and it never moves but with this one it moves slowly back up then goes back to the exact same position, but is always between page 2 and 5. I'm just amazed and confused. I have a good mount of decent links to the site Web 2.0, PBN posts and stuff like that, and it's like it refuses to do anything.

Don't forget that you could also be penalized by the panda 4.0 update. I have a site that i don't really care about that's been stuck on page 2 for months even though i know i have plenty enough of link juice to it to rank it. The content is crap on the site though, im just not bothered changing it yet. But my point is, that it might not just be this waiting period holding your site back - It might also have been penalized by the Panda update that rolled out at the same time as the Payday loans update, and you mightn't recover at all if you don't fix your content.

btw guys i don't think its just about new domains OR about the higher traffic kws OR even about good quality content (they may all be factors in the mix however the site I discuss below busts all these rules)

There is a dirty little site ranking NUMBER ONE in one of my niches, the content was total sh** at first (think they swapped it with better now) totally cra*py spin that looks like one click spin, the domain age was 6 months old I think, the site only had 5-10 pages so same as mine. It even still only uses the DEFAULT wordpress theme. As for the kws they are all under 5k/month traffic <50k/m search comp.

Checking the backlink profile they only had around 100 links but from some decent private network it seemed.

Hmm this is informative for me as I type this cos I hadn't even thought about it before what the exact factors were, and this thread has focused my mind.

So how are your guy's links? I can tell you all mine are are shitty GSA links and lots of them. Not churn and burn spam. I only use contextuals but still they are sleazy links compared to a pbn I bet Interested to hear what links other ppl are using to see if we might find any kind of trend...

But i can't crack page 1, 90% of keywords are stuck on page 2 and 3. Added some kick ass sape links, nothing moves to page 1.

Completely understand you mate, absolutely same situation with me. I will try to push with diversified links and anchor texts + some high PR niche related links + 301 redirect from authority site directly to my money site.

If that won't work, time is obviously unbeatable factor for google rankings lately.

You have to start somewhere and I never said it was 'conclusive' just putting some more info to the plate for discussion. so please don't jump on your high horse so fast.

If it were about domains, YT videos should have not been impacted.

I think it is more about pages and not domains. Google ranks pages not domains.

I searched for lot of kws for which spammy videos exist and I could not find a single video that was uploaded in May or June.

I think Google's algo now successfully differentiates between sites that are spammed (that get spam content) and sites that are not spammed.

Sites which are spammed won't be able to rank pages easily. Maybe the delay has been introduced to allow the spammed sites to remove the spam content.

And it is not difficult to find such sites. Sites where a large number of pages are regularly deleted are spam-affected. A simple algo can catch such websites easily.

Just to mention, I've got a BIG jump in SERPs for all my keywords in last 3 hours, some keywords got to Page 1 (#10). But, it is hard to conclude anything, I think it is still a Google Dance, because links are still coming to my website.

Anyone faced similar jump in SERPs today?

I built a mini-authority site between early april-late may that targeted about ~120k m/s worth of medium competition keywords. The pages are organized in a perfect silo structure with phpbuilt's recommended keyword density and 4 in-category interlinks. In all, the site has 141 pages of high quality content now (roughly 80,000 words)

Literally every keyword is on page 4 and 5 right now, with some longtails on page 2/3, and none of them have really moved for 3 weeks

Someone in another thread on here made a very good point. What if they simply - instead of instantly calculating a rank increase / penalty, delayed the algorithm's reaction until it had time to properly assess the backlinks... Makes sense, and would be a pretty good way to "break spammers spirits" because it's unlikely that a churn and burn SEO would keep building links for a full month.

This would on the flip-side make Google terrible at ranking legit sites that goes viral.

But something is definitely going on. Getting in the top 10 results (in competitive niches) has become much harder to accomplish since May. Wouldn't be terribly hard for Google to do with all their data though. Maybe there is a "throttle" on websites (both old and new domain age) that suddenly try to rank for keywords with high commercial value.

The amount of articles is >>>relevant<<< to ranking. It may not be a primary factor but it absolutely something that Google considers. And apparently, you don't know how to do basic research. Because I checked your example "buy Viagra online" and:

#1 is Canada Drugs which has 403,000 pages of content.
#2 is Corey Nahman which has 304 pages of content.

So many marketers think Google doesn't favor big sites and that's bullshit because most marketers are too lazy to produce content. Sure, you might be able to find thin sites ranking in competitive niches, but generally speaking, the high majority of the time that is not what I see. What I do see more often that not is huge sites in the top 3.

I have also split tested this enough times to see for myself. My biggest sites never have problems cracking the top 3. They rank like mini-tanks. It's always my thin sites that get stuck on the top of page 2 and caught in this "filter" which is really just Google saying "I ain't ranking your shitty 4 pages wp site".

If you don't believe me, go run a few dozen split tests.

For every niche you target to 1 thin site, then 1 site that is beefed up with hundreds of pages of spun content.

I GUARANTEE you will notice that the big sites consistently outperform the thin sites.

And I bet you still work a 9-5 job. It doesn't matter bud. Sites in Viagra are ranking with 1-5 page. Do more research and YOU run tests because I've run thousands of tests in my day. I'm full black I don't F around with these forums usually because of shit like this

lol. Spam content? No. Google content algo is horrid. Maybe they detect spam links / sources etc but I use gibberish content on many MS sites and they still rank even today

I've been doing blackhat SEO for a LONG time, but after the May 14 update I notice something is off. It seems Google has implemented some sort of 'waiting period' to attempt to prevent churn & burn. For example I can blast a site with the exact amount of network / sape / gsa that would easily rank before May 14, but now the sites get stuck on pg 2-5 and won't budge. The strange thing is that it's like no matter how many links you pump at a site that's in this 'filter', it doesn't move. I'm hoping the filter only lasts a month or so and then the sites will rank but that's yet to be seen.
Anyone else running into this issue?
