Google "waiting period" after May 14 payday update?

So basically, continue to build quality high pr links to our money sites even if the rankings are stuck. Then after the 30-45 day waiting period, our site will shoot up in rankings?

But what that means actually, can someone explain me this two cases:

1) Buy 100 High PR links that last 30 days, let them expire after 30 days and buy 100 different High PR links that will last 30 days again - THIS WILL NOT RANK

2) Buy 100 High PR links that last 30 days, after 30 days just extend them for more 30 days - THIS SHOULD WORK AFTER 30-45 DAYS

Am I right? Or it doesn't matter?

Nobody has meaningfully quantified the ranking delay - there's anecdotal stories of 30-45days, but I certainly am not forming policy at this point based on that early info.

There is no specific time period at all. What I told is what happened at my end... It is all random.

So ,
I am on a super-low competitive niche and after 7 days with some 3,000 + Words of content,I'm still stuck at 15-16th page.
So I think it's this "waiting period" holding me back.
I am pretty sure I would've ranked at least at page 4-5 without any seo or social signals.
The only thing I did till now is a web 2.0 link with extended+ diversified tiers, great social signals.
I thought that would be enough to rank but I think,I should continue building links .
What do you guys say?
Keep the discussion going.
Thanks :)

Per one of my earlier posts in this thread - I ranked a super low/non-competitive term pretty much overnight and took out all but 2 of the first page positions. Though, as I also said, the search volume would be exactly zero for that phrase.

What is the search volume like for your term?

It's like 3-4k per month.
The #1 positions are mostly pinterest pages, and then the other positions are user generated pages and some zazzle and etsy pages.
:)
Thanks.

New domain, 2 pages (+contact, privacy policy etc), started adding links as soon as it was indexed very slowly over the course of 4 weeks. I did a nice mix of web 2.0, press release, bookmarks, q&a, wikis etc. all mostly with URL anchor. I also slowly added quality links from my PBN that is related to the niche. Website was indexed in early May. Since than I've been adding very quality PBN links over time, totaling 65 links till late June, than started to drip feed another 30.

Homepage didn't show up nowhere since the date in the pic for none of the keywords. 1-2 keywords appeared in 90-100 once or twice than disappeared.

What's funny is that page 2 shot to top 100 right away after few PBN links and slowly climbed to top of page 2 where is right now, some keywords went over to page 1 as well. Have few more websites with same pattern. Keywords not showing up anywhere for a lot of time even tho competition is medium at best, than suddenly they are on page 2 and going slowly to page 1.

Have you got any idea if the waiting period applies to Web 2.0-s also? Mainly blogger.

I am just thinking that it has something to do with adwords competition.
The Niche I am in has a great competition in adwords yet the page 1 results are of low quality(I mean pinterest pages and all which provide very less value).
It can be like where the adwords competition is high, they put some random shit on page 1 and then the user clicks the ads as there are not good enough results on page there.
I might be wrong, but this is what it looks like to me in the niche I am into.

i am seeing same thing.i build tons of links but the site don't move at all.

I'm seeing the same issue, I spammed a 14k match term to #2 (below the brand name) in 8 days. Keep in mind I am new, far far far from an expert. I tried the same strategy around the date mentioned, and that site is still not ranked. I am also having the issue on a 2ed site which I had a more experience SEO'er do, it ranked 80 on two keywords, and one is now at 99 and the other is gone.

One problem with that comment is that the commenter says it now takes 5 months to rank sites. Last I checked, it's been about 1.5 months since the update.

I'd take everything on that page/site with a grain of salt.

yes it was from nowhere to page 1.

Also just read a comment here which kinda makes sense for this situation:

"There is absolutely an age filter placed on results, rolled out on our around May 20th. Age of domain makes no difference so you can't go and repurpose an aged domain - it's link age."

Looks like a valid argument, I am having difficulties getting sites ranked quickly like they used to before. But again, it may or may not be a waiting period.

Quick question guys is this for all niches or just for certain ones?

It's probably Google's good ol' commercial-site sensing algorithm. It decides a site is commercial and down it goes the adwords candidate row.

Alright, here is what I have noticed for a very competitive keyword in our country:

Our inner page on a 'white hat' domain goes from position #19 to nowhere to be seen together with a couple
of other domains. Then it comes back and it disappears again. Almost like an off and on switch that removes
this particular page together with the other domains.

My page is the only page that would be considered white hat, the other sites that disappear are full of SAPE links.
When my page and the other black hat sites are gone, the SERP is clean from spam, only full of legit sites.

If we take into consideration that this is an automatic algorithm, there are only two things that my page has in common
with the black hat domains:
1. The link building started in May or later.
2. The domains are less than 3 months old.

That's it, hence the key must lie there somewhere.

I would also like to point out some other interesting points:

1. We disappear for the specific keyword, but not long tail combinations including the keyword. This adds fuel
to the theory that the filter is keyword related.

2. This is the only inner page that is affected. Other inner pages still rank for their respective keywords, which
would also add fuel to the theory of a keyword related filter, rather than a niche related one.

What is paradoxal at the moment, is that people that wouldn't have stood a chance in hell to rank before, now have
great positions. I see people having like 20 link directory links that were added 2 years ago and they hold top 5 positions
for crazy difficult keywords.

Will be following this thread with great interest.
