Guys: Kindle is the Ticket!

Thanks, @Carepolice. I thought he meant that a book can be produced in a day and ready for publishing. I can research a niche in a few hours, but then I spend a lot of hours finding relevant material, then I spend a few more hours looking for nice covers/description ideas, etc. My writer also needs 4-5 days to re-write the whole thing and to format it for Kindle. And, to start right, you also need to get some reviews first. It's a lengthy process.
But I guess the real fun starts once you have a series of books out and interlinked. Then you can start Kindle free promotion days and with 5-10k downloads, someone will surely buy other books as well. With enough books out, you can regularly have those free promo days and indirectly promoting your other books constantly.
But the quality needs to be good - because even if it's the best possible, people will always b*tch about something.So you need to make sure that most reviews are positive.

It sounds like you've got a working system, and that's awesome. One suggestion I'd like to offer you would be to register your own domain name with a catchy title. Use that domain to link to your publisher page so you may include a memorable link inside each of your products. This has worked wonders for me on multiple pen names, it really boosted up the "build a following" phase.

Already have it. I just need to figure out what to put on it.
I guess it will be a simple "publisher" page with my eBooks listed and an option for people to opt-in.

Congrats on your 7th book - you are quick, man. This gives me motivation to push myself harder.
Hm, no, I don't know how to "inflate" Kindle pages. But don't worry about it - if it's short and you won't get any sales at 2.99 USD, just drop it to .99 USD. 35 is short and personally, I would probably not pay 2.99 for a short book like that (don't get me wrong, just sayin').
The length of your book should fit with the market, obviously. If anyone is unsure of how long to make their book, or whether their "short" book is good enough, just look at the top selling products by relevance in your niche and make note of their book lengths. In most cases you'll see a pattern with regards to how many pages the successful books have, and you should take hints from that.
If you're writing non-fiction then a good way to pad pages would be to include a resources section, more details about the author and where to find more products, a "takeaway" like an action worksheet, etc, etc.
That's Kindle pages. In my case, that translates to 30 (or so) A4 pages.

Hi everyone, is there a way to make kindle books available for free permanently? I haven't got any books up at the moment, just curious about this method.

That's true , but you have a less chance to undo it (even if you delete your book on Smahworld). But if you have several books in a specific niche, a free book is a great way to promote the other books.
ANOTHER QUESTION:
I browsed through the erotic niche. Most of these books only have 30 Kindle pages. The books with explicit content have no bestseller ranking but you can see the besteller ranking of some erotic books (with less explicit content) - And the ranking of these books is extremely good.
Before I outsource the writing I want to write a few books in this category by myself. Does anyone have experience in this field? What is the target audience? Men or women? Hardcore or discreet eroticism? How important are keywords in this category? I mean: Are the people really searching for special keywords like "gangbang", "big tits" or something like that? Or do I need just a catchy title?
If anyone has experience in this area, please share it!

Thanks, that's good to know. I'm also wondering how those who publish things like cookbooks go about using images in their ebook. Can you just use images of the dish from Google or what? From looking at reviews I sense that a lot of people expect images of the final product if you're publishing recipes. I'm not much of a cook so actually cooking something and taking a picture is out of the question for me!

Hi Pinger, I don't have any experience in this area at all so take my thoughts for what they're worth. But my general impression is that women compose the majority of the audience in the erotica genre. Men are more visually stimulated and would prefer to jump straight to the action on a porn website and I don't know any guys who would bother to sit down and read erotica. On the other hand, the only people I know who have read 50 Shades of Grey were women. This doesn't mean that there aren't any men who read erotica but I suspect they make up a small percentage of the audience. I've also noticed that a lot of authors in this genre are either women or people who must be using a female pen name because most people probably assume that a male writer wouldn't understand the target (female) audience.
To continue, I would suspect that the reason for less explicit erotica having a good ranking is because females aren't just looking for sexual action; they're also seeking a good story and plot with great characters and sexual tension. You might notice that a great deal of the erotica selling to women is romantic erotica, which as I understand is basically a romance story with really good sex scenes. Note that women are going to be less forgiving if you have slipshod work that just keeps skipping to a sex scene whereas males probably won't mind.
These are all generalisations obviously and for someone who doesn't know dick about erotica this was quite the post. And by the way, i typed gangbang into Amazon search and it does seem that people are actively searching for these kinds of terms.
