It all depends, really. If you think the site would be completely fine with spun content then go for it, although Google is getting consistently better at weeding out "spam sites".
Test it out, see if it works for yourself (that's the only foolproof way to get your answer!).

Spun and similar article types should ONLY be used in the links used to reinforce your main links. Basically, you should use them wherever they are not really going to be visible by anyone.
This is what you want from those type of articles:
readable
unique
on topic
As long as the articles meet those requirements and as long as you are using them as stated above, you will get great results in your campaigns.
Use HQ engaging content on the links pointing directly to your website and use that type of content to reinforce those links.
If you are using BH methods, then you can use that content for whatever you want; even for your money site.

I suggest you to don't use it for tier 1 link. Even if it is tier 2 don't go for high level of spinning.

At this time not good for spin content. Totally affect from Google updates.

Depends on the niche and the competition and the quality of the spin.
Salt this with your long term expectations and the likelihood that at some point down the line Google might well improve their algo to spot all but the very very best spin.
At the moment, despite all the QQing, I've found that Google are singularly crap at spotting spun content. Almost as bad as they were 5+ years ago...
Soft niches I've noticed any old crap still wins. You don't even need to spin. Just copy and paste. I've had my own site content that I got indexed in 2012, get copied and pasted onto another site by a competitor, and my own content rank just a place or so behind me for months on end. No spinning what so ever, just a straight copy and paste. This is in 2014 and for commercial terms.

WH evangelists always write what they hope or assume as happened. Rarely with any citation and often in complete contradiction to what Serps actually shows. But they have been doing that for well over a decade, and people still keep believing it - while some of us... just carry on adapting, tweaking, learning a few new twists...... and making money.

Wrong, it depends on how you use them. It still works on tier link building and even high quality of spun content can be used for money site and tier 1.

I agree. I see copy and pasted content word for word ranking just doing kw research. Just saw some yesterday. Though these KW's were really low comp, but there are plenty of other websites ranking on lower pages with unique content and google still chose the dupe over unique.

This is what WH sites and WH evangelists SAY is happening.
They write long pretty articles about this. Claim that the latest Google update has hammered spun content.
Then you look in SERPS and wonder what the feck they are talking about..
Just because groups like MOZ say something is so - don't make it so.
Take a look back at the article claiming spun content has been hammered. Look for the proof, the study, the citation.
Whoops - there never is any. Never.
It's an exercise in wishful thinking.
"This is how serps SHOULD operate" they think "This is what Google CLAIM they are doing" they add
So we are going to report it as proven FACT. If we link out from our article claiming this to be fact we'll link to other sites like us and Google's own list of aims for the update.
(WH authority sites pointing to each other in a self congratulatory circle-wank - and to Google in a "all hail the big boss" toadying way)
When even a cursory look at the real state of Google's index shows they are talking out of their ass.
Google are a little better at spotting crap or copied content - but only a little. They are still, for the most part, really piss poor at it.

you can use spin content in tier 2 or below. Better you always use high quality content in tier 1.

Or just copy and paste good quality content from elsewhere.
Works half the time without any spinning at all. And you get good click through if you copy good stuff.
People running scared of what Google are CLAIMING they are doing and not what they are ACTUALLY doing.
Good point though. Good content (unique or copied) is what keep visitors on site. No-one is going to click-thru a page full of garbage.
