Hi guys,

I've redesigned my site so that it was built using fresh content and a new WP installation but It wont rank at all. Its been 3 months now. I've checked to see if its been sandboxed and it hasn't.

There are no webmaster warnings. Its been built using best practice and I regularly build backlinks and post articles linking back to it. But no joy.

Does anyone know of other reasons why this could be happening?

Also - If you have a daft reply like our friend "evilclown" down there then please don't bother. I'm looking for some constructive advice and not a silly comment with no use.

Thanks in advance.

So what are you expecting to people to say here? You have no details were you need help, you are been vague and with no definition. I am guessing you did the same with your site. Just plug content, build links and has no meaning. Maybe a little organization will help you so others can help you.

I'm expecting some good SEO to maybe send me a message, ask for the URL and possibly offer some advice. If you cant do that then go and respond your useless comment to another post.

Also, your guess is incorrect. I'm guessing you stepped on a potato chip in your moms basement so maybe that's why your so rude and angry. Hope you feel better and get that cleaned up.

Finally do you really want me to define what I am asking in my question?

First, don't be a dick to donors who make it possible for you to have a place to ask for help.

Check your 404 Not found errors... odds are you changed your URL structure and orphaned all your backlinks. If you have a lot of pages then making widespread changes causes google to re-analyze your whole site and what keywords it should be relevant for. This takes a HUGE amount of time and CPU on google's side. They aren't going to drop everything to rush your website unless you had already established a lot of great traffic and authority. If you have thousands of pages you can plan on this taking a month or two.

Check your number of indexed pages. If you know you only have 500 pages and GWT says it has index 425,000 pages then you have an infinite loop in you navigation that keeps creating new URLs for the same content. Fix it. Change your navigation and/or ignore URL params causing this issue.

Check your robots.txt... make sure you aren't blocking googlebot

Make sure you use canonical tags if the old URLs and new URLs still display the same content. This provides hints to google as to which URL to use in the SERPs.

301 redirect old pages to the proper new page. Doing a wildcard 301 to the new home page causes all your old URL that are indexed in google to become duplicate content and they all will be cast into the supplemental indexes to never be seen again.

Page load times... the slower your website is the fewer SERPs you will appear in...

In GWT "HTML Appearance" check for duplicate titles and meta descriptions... fix those... if it is always just "2" for old URL and new URL then don't bother... the old will eventually go away... again it takes a month or two for google to transition on a complete overhaul of a large website.

Well, I am on Evilclown's side here. How do we know what you did so far with the descriptions you gave? You do not mention even how many pages are indexed.

Did you know what you were doing? Dd you keep the same url's? If not what did you do to deal with the change? If the site were built with fresh content, does that mean that the site is being re-purposed and is no longer related to the cached version of the site?

How did you check for the sandbox?

When you redesigned the site, did you update the sitemap and do a fetch as googlebot?

Its been built using best practice and I regularly build backlinks and post articles linking back to it. But no joy

Where did you get these best practices from, how are they implemented? Are you doing article marketing? How many backlinks have you built, and what does the backlink diversity and velocity and referring domains look like? Are you building more l;inks than your traffic will support?

Does anyone know of other reasons why this could be happening?

Your site could suck, there could be neg seo against you, your onpage SEO could be off, you could be blocked by robots file, you could be blocked by a noindex tag, your site could be under penalty, or in the sandbox (which yo say it is not), there could be validation errors causing the site not to parse correctly.

Your site could be hacked, or have a malfunctioning plugin or theme, there may be so many broken links that Google considers the site unfinished.

In short it could be anything, because you gave us nothing to work with.

Ans BTW, everyone here is paranoid about their URL getting out, if you want some to take a look, add a statement in your post along the lines of "I will be happy to PM the URL to someone if they want to take a look".
