I tried this myself and at first my page went to number one on bing and yahoo but it never made it on google, but now the site I put up is not even on bing or yahoo. but the sites he made for me are still up .

Ranking for keywords like this is usually to fool non-seo people (usually local clients) who have no idea about how the internet and search engines works.

It's like ranking for firstname-middlename-lastname.com for firstname middlename lastname when you have a unique name that no one else has. Google has no other results to show but your domain. Once the domain is indexed, it'll be ranking on first page even with no content.

I think I know how he did it. You can actually get ranked for medium-low (long tail) keywords by searching the site on Google using the target keyword and clicking your site only then browsing this within several minutes. Then you need to repeat this using different IPs and browser. I think there is a software on this. I have heard about this technique before

That is easy to get ranked in 24 to 48 hours for a whole new site for a long tail keyword. I made a blog in half an hour and wrote all content myself and in 2 days it is ranking #7 in Google for couple of keywords.
