Guys: Kindle is the Ticket!

Sorry, but i don't understand how you lose 60%?

"We'll withhold this percentage from U.S. source payments in these Kindle Stores: US, CA, JP, IN and MX. This percentage will not apply to royalty payments made from the DE, UK, FR, ES, IT and BR stores"

I may be wrong, but i think they withhold 30% of your profits from books sold in US,CA,JP,IN & MX by US customers?

I'm not an expert on US Tax so advice would be appreciated :)

I don't know where exactly that guy lives, but I think he's implying that he'd have to pay 30% taxes to his home country even after Amazon withholds the US tax... But most countries do have tax treaties to stop double taxation so it's really a non issue for most people even in Europe.

How hard is it to format a book for Kindle? Do most of you outsource that or format it yourself?

Did anyone write a comedy book? Like a "South Park" on paper?

Would the fitness niche be a good choice? "How to get six pack abs" "How to get bigger biceps at home" etc.

I haven't done any 'fitness' books. Best thing to do is start publishing and see what works best for you.

I'm actually in the process of writing a fitness ebook, will let you know how I go on. Hoping to have it published by the end of December

Currently i am based in Greece, and regarding amazon with the details that i puted, they will withhold 30% on taxes and 30% on sales from usa,ca,jp,in and mx.That's what i got from them and din't put more time on it since that.

Well, the first 30% is taken from anyone. I don't have time to research Greece's tax treaties, but here in Finland, double taxation is prevented, and I don't have to pay tax for things that were already taxed in the US.

But I can see why it'd be discouraging especially for people just starting out in IM who don't pay taxes anyway. Having a business set up and an accountant helps.

Ok, didn't pay attention to your join date...

You can do whatever you want, I just don't want other people to be discouraged by your post (I was confused by this at first too), because most countries have treaties to prevent double taxation, so the withhold isn't a problem if you actually pay taxes. It's only a problem if there are no treaties, of course :p

Awesome post. Husband is a writer, and I think this may be the one thing I can get him into.

I am really tempted to do this but can honestly say I have not written a story since high school, even then I can't even recall what I actually wrote or if it was any good.

I've been toying with the ideas of buying a kindle book on creative writing or something along those lines to help me out, would it be worth it?

Hey GobBluthJD, just wanna say THANK YOU for the motivation! I've been thinking about doing this for over a year, but this thread got me moving. I did my research, found two niches, jobs posted for writers and we'll see how it goes. Much respect and appreciation for sharing all of this!

Great thread. Here's my two cents. I want to confirm as well that selling ebooks does well if you follow the basics. I've sold ebooks and products on Amazon for about 2 years and have been doing ok. Ebooks I don't have the exact number but I probably make about $600 a month off of it which maybe not a lot to many of you but that's something I get without doing to much anymore as I haven't even logged in for almost a year since I have my assistant (wife) handle it now which amounts to just making sure we are getting paid and following up on any questions. Now, I do have a full time job but that's because I love it so can't leave it. Some quick notes, I've tried fiverr 5x times and I personally didn't like the results. From FB, twitter, marketing, nothing really came out of it and these where suppose to be the best on fiverr.

As mentioned in one post, odesk and elance does well for marketing in general and saves a lot of time as I use it for myself. I stopped using elance as I found some good people on odesk who are about 40% cheaper and I get similar results. So if you are considering using those services and never used one you'd probably should start with elance then go to odesk when you have some experience hiring as odesk has a lot of crappy or no-experience people/groups so you have to see what's good first to judge if you found the right people for yourself and really should just skip fiverr for this.

Heyyy
