So, partly through my own fault, but primarily as a result of a huge negative SEO campaign that has been ongoing since July of this year - creating tens of thousands of links a week and using all sorts of nasty tactics including (but not limited to...)
I've been clobbered. Well over 100,000 links though that does include some SWL's and some very strange ones at that...
Had the ULN (unnatural linking notice) and penalty. Have to clear it up which presents two problems:
1) There are a feck of a lot of links to clear up. 95% of which I didn't make so have no idea about how to remove until I do a lot of digging
2) I'm STILL BEING LINK SPAMMED. Every day I open the admin of my site and the new trackbacks (from new links being pinged since I last opened the admin page) scroll down the page - so many some days that it's almost a mini DDOS attack The site freezes, I get emails about "fair use" bandwidth from my host.
So here is what I'm doing about it

It's called Week 3 update - I didn't do a week 1 or 2 - nothing decent to write about, thought better to bring it together and maybe update progress on this thread as I go through the BS I'm bound to have to face with Google. Never heard of a 1st recon request going through unless there was something technically wrong with the penalty in the first place, so this might take some time
Some links at the bottom of the post regarding the spreadsheets I've made to help and how to use them etc.
Shall I sign off by adding a few nice expletives?
Nah, it's only my SEO site, so it's not that important financially for me, but I would like the fecker cleaned up at some point.
And if I find out who is doing this....

- As many domains to link from as possible
- Picking malware infected domains
- Picking old but unindexed domains (indexed in crappy seach engines but not Google)
- Using SAPE style links (many of which are dirt cheap now and being sold openly as negative SEO services rather than SERP boosting ones)
- Linking over a period of many months - How many? No idea 4 so far and still going strong!
- Concentrating on 2 or 3 high value anchor texts
- Using crap content (how easy is THAT to do)
- Spamming a very wide variety of link platforms (maybe thinking that this wil make it look "natural")
