Since Google is either getting a lot smarter or a lot dumber, I'm going to test this out to see if we can give Matt Cutts more of a hard time taking the food off our tables. I also haven't read anything around the forum of anyone testing this, so lets give it a go.

What we know:

1. We already know that syndicating content can be good, or can be considered duplicate (bad).

2. We know that web 2.0's are logically one of the best platforms to gain strong, relevant backlinks to your website, ultimately resulting in a rise in the SERPs.

3. We know that web 2.0's are not a viable option for your first tier if they're full of spun content because those often get taken down or result in some sort of penalty.

Which means:

Syndicating a good article that was published on your money site on a web 2.0 can provide non-spun content, is relevant to your niche, and looks really natural. After all, the internet is full of websites that share information that's found on other websites, right? Right.

I'm going to take one of my clients satellite sites, which is full of good articles, and use those articles in web 2.0's, and this is the approach I'm going to take to present them on the web 2's:

*short paragraph about the niche*

This is an interesting article found on "domain.com" about *what the article is about* that I'd like to share:

*Article*

There is a small amount of manual work needed to get this done, but it's a lot easier than writing content from scratch. If you don't have a site full of articles, then you probably aren't going for an authority site, in which case you may just be ranking, banking and tanking. If you decide to take this approach, then get some good articles written that can be used for both website content and web 2's, so you're killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

I'm going to start this today on a satellite site that already ranks decently in a competitive niche (page 2), and haven't built many links to in in a while. I'll report here with the SERP effect and other details.

Nice idea. Will watch this thread to see the outcome. Thanks OP.

I've been doing this for over a year now while people were too busy preaching about off site duplicate content penalties lol (I was doing it based on the fact that "good" content naturally gets syndicated) - hinted it many times in my past posts but no one seemed to have gotten it. The effectiveness of this strategy seems to have dropped in the past few months though. In any case, would love to hear about your results with this. One of my most stable sites (for over a year) was mostly syndicated content. This site finally dropped a few spots (2-5) in the last few updates.

A 2-5 drop isn't much of a drop, so I doubt its related to this strategy. Great to hear someone else saw some success with this approach!

Adam, this is a really interesting study, I subscribed to your thread and I really hope that you will continue updating it with the ranking improvements and especially when there is a confirmed update like Panda or Penguin.

Thanks for the support. I'm setting up a bunch of articles now. Will update with how many I end up doing.

Very interesting and I will follow this case study! Looking forward to the results. If syndicated content works, it will change my whole life.

I can't think of a reason for it not to work. The content around links in web 2's are pretty much just there to keep you safe from manual review either by google or the webmaster of that property domain.

That particular web 2.0 probably won't be ranking well because it has copied content on it, but who cares? All we want is a safe, long lasting link that we can continue to build a second tier to.

What are Web 2.0s? See it all the time but it seems so vague... I realize it means modern websites, or at least I think so (the "trendy" ones with tag clouds everywhere) but which ones accept articles etc?

Theoretically you're right. I think I will try this as well.

Update: I hand made 6 beautiful web 2.0's with 6 good articles from the money site. They're going to stick without a doubt. I used a variation of keywords. Will try to create a good handful each day.

Isn't that going to create a huge footprint - 2.0's with content syndicated from one site only?

XH

Looking forward to the result! Been thinking about this for a while now...

Not really. A footprint is something that sort of proves that the link is fishy: a ton of links coming from the same IP, spun content, irrelevant linking, etc.

syndication shouldn't raise any spam signals, especially if you're actually mentioning that you're talking about an article that's taken from somewhere else (money site).

@Adam718

I guess what I was meaning is if he has 20 web 2.0's, and all of them have 10 articles syndicated only from mymoneysite.com and not from anywhere else, it might raise flags. But I really don't know which is why I am asking :-)

Im not syndicating 10 articles per web 2, just 1. This way it looks less like a page I built to advertise myself lol

Update: I created 4 more web 2's. 10 total so far. I'm going to start building a tier 2 today to help with indexing and juicing em up.

Update: Dripping about 100 bookmarks to each property over the next week. A few days after they're all indexed, I'm going to get a bit more aggressive with the tier 2.

Continue the good work mate, I'm still following your progress.
