In terms of your book, I would rewrite the title and description. The title and description are keyword stuffed (just put those in your tags). I think people search for "love story" but maybe not so much for "Indian author", etc. Rethink all your words. Remove most of the keywords in the title and all keywords and urls in the description. Rewrite title and description to make them compelling and used to "sell" the book to the reader. Also, your "what's inside" looks like a url index. You should lead with your book and the hook.

ex."Mary wanted Robert to know her secret but knew that it would kill him." is much more compelling than 10 urls and links to other sites.

You need to give the readers a reason to buy your book from the little they see of it.

Last of all, the book is pretty short even for 99 cents.

Just to clarify this:

Think of what would make YOU buy the book as you read through the title and description and sample chapter and then write it that way.

Customers are looking for something to read that they would enjoy, not a jumbled mash of keywords and urls.

Look at your final title/desc/sample like a consumer would look at it. Cleverly blending in keywords is an art. Your listing is an advertisement to make them buy your book, don't forget this.

Is it okay if I sell a 7500 word self-help book on business for 2.99? It's only 13 pages in Microsoft Word. How many pages would that be in the kindle format?

4. Upload image and document to KDP
5. Join kindle select
6. Make free for 5 days
7. Earn money after 5 days...no blogs...social bookmarking.....promotions etc. What part of Amazon is a huge search engine designed for BUYERS that automatically indexes and ranks your content are you missing here?

I did this as an experiment and whilst free book was getting 100+ downloads a day......

Wash rinse and repeat= money

Alternatively......continue writing begging posts here and ignoring fact that his ebook is no longer free because clowns hacked his site = no money

Seriously if you spent less time begging here and more time looking around you you would make some coin.....Before anyone asks no I am not writing an ebook and giving it away free here....or responding to PMs.:sheep:

Selling/Giving away for free on Fiverr might be a good idea for reviews...ALSO...doing an expensive paid keyword targeted press release when the free ebook promo happens could get you TONS of gravity and virality in new reviews and customers!
 
Hey guys,

This is my very first post in this forum, I have no experience in the SEO whatsoever, and even though I know that IM is a great way to make money online, I also know that I will have to invest a lot of time to learn everything that I need to know. so I decided to give this method a shot first.

I could write a book about my hobbie, which is origami, and since it is one of my interests, I have a lot of pictures and material from my own projects and research that I've done.

If I have apply this method, do you guys think that I will have a chance to make some money? Even though this niche is not all that interesting?
 
All niches are interesting to somebody. The more popular the niche, the more books you will sell, and the more money you will make. Less popular, less money. My advice? Go with what interests you. Origami may be more popular than you think. Sometimes its more profitable to be a big fish in a small pond, than a tadpole in a big pond. Good luck. :)

I want to share my experience with Kindle. As my native language is German, I concentrate more on German books non-fiction. As some of you did I had made two books put it on kindle and really forgot about it, just wanting to know what kindle is about. After 3 month I received a cheque and was wondering why I get money from amazon. I had to do a lot of research to find out where the money came from and which account has made the money. That's how I got into publishing for kindle. I have now about 40 titles online (German language, small niche, time sensitive, aimed at the European market) making around 1000 Us$ a month. Each title took me about two days to create and publish, all 100% unique content, self written.

Yes it is possible to earn ones living with kdp, but not in all markets.

Considerations and experiences after two years:

1. German market is smaller thus the sales figures people here publish can of course not be transfered from the US market to other language markets.
2. I made Spanish, English and French translations of my work, they sell only in Europe and they sell the same as the German sales considering the population of the different territories.
3. Put a print version on createspace of each, which lowered my sales on kindle but increased income overall.
4. KDP select did NOT work for my niche and language
5. If you are a blog writer or have a website, you can easily make a book out of your content on the blog, just change it a bit to the demands a reader has.
6. Do not use published content found elsewhere this does not work and Amazon is very strict and good in finding content elsewhere available.
7. It is crucial to find a niche, otherwise you do not land on the first two pages in the search of Amazon, thus no sales.
8. What I tried is to put up prices to 9.90 which resulted in decrease of sales but increase of overall profit at least for German market.

Thoughts:
If you are good in writing it makes sense to publish on kindle. It only makes sense if you are fast in writing and it is easy for you to find the right words. When you have to sit and think about what to write, forget it, then you will not make profits considering your time you put in.

For me the effort to write a book is lower than making SEO for a website and more effective, although I do that as well.

Thanks, Eric for your insight. I think you're probably better off writing for the German market - it may be smaller, but definitely less saturated.

My own experience so far:
Inspired by the OP, I began seriously writing and publishing on Kindle five and a half months ago and have now published 31 books and counting. I am a writer by profession so I have written all the books myself, simply because I cannot afford to pay to have books written for me. I have published both fiction and non-fiction, across several genres and niches. I have done absolutely NO marketing other than the KDP program, NO social media promotion and NO fake reviews/review exchanges etc, and my sales last month just touched the $400 p.m. mark. My aim is to increase my monthly sales by $50 each month by writing and publishing more books each month.

As the OP said in his original post, this is HARD, HARD work up front, but once you've done the work, you will reap the profits on autopilot for years to come.

For the past five years I've tried various IM methods - affiliate marketing, blogs, adsense etc, but so far this is the ONLY method that has really worked for me. I know I'm not chalking up the huge sales that others have reported, but for me this has been a great start and as long as I grow my sales each month I'll be happy. My goal now is $1000 per month, and after that? Who knows? The sky's the limit.

P.S. Where are you, OP? It would be great if you could look into this thread every now and then and tell us how you're doing and how many books you've published so far. You've been a great inspiration to me and many others here, it would be nice hearing from you again.

I'm currently writing my first book at the moment (childrens), inspired to a large degree by the OP and others who have contributed to this thread, so thanks!

Turbopugsley - you say that a paid press release COULD give you tons of gravity and virality but has anyone actually tried it or experimented and found it worthwhile? thanks
 
I have a question:

When you say to put the book on free promotion, does that mean that there is a setting on the dashboard that allows you to do this for a particular amount of time? Because if there is I have not seen that setting. Or do you mean just manually go to your dashboard and set the price to "zero" for whatever amount of time you choose.

In your bookshelf, select the book you want to promote, click the "Actions" tab, click on "Manage Promotions" in the drop-down list - choose the number of promotion days (1-5), save and you're done.

TE...there were some real innovators there...big mistake to close it down....still in trenches...still earn coin on line and else where.....oddly had my JVIP taken off me...maybe its quantity not quality that counts?
 
Amazon seems to have changed their rules on KDP Select promotions. It seems you can now offer the book at discounted prices for up to 7 days. Any thoughts on this anyone? Can you give us your input on this OP?
