Selling Basic WP websites to small businesses....

I have some clients like this but I charge everyone upfront fees and then monthly hosting fees. If you can deal with $625 then go for it, it's a great selling point.

I read a post recently where someone was using craigslist to offer free websites and was setting up a simple wordpress one for them. However, he suggested using a referral hostgator link so that way you get 100$ or so by referring a new subscriber to their 3$/month package (something the new website owner should be weilling to pay ). And later on he was suggesting upselling other products and making commission off of those as well (seo, backlink packages, security packages). Can't seem to find the link but if i do ill post it up in here. GL!

Friend of mine did it successfuly so I believe there is money to be made. But he used emails to contact them, I'd rather use snail mail.

I will host the sites on my reseller hosting. And register and keep domain in my name (will be an extra reason for them to stay with me).

Do you think I should make any changed my end? or would I need to give them access to the website to edit things as they wish?

Yeah dont let them edit shit...Thats what they pay you for.

Youre in the uk ? pull out the Yellow pages and try and target smaller or non trendy towns.go through every local business and find ones that dont have a website.

Target ones that have shitty weebly websites but dont tell them they have shitty websites...their little sister might have made it for them ! Just offer to make them look more professional and set up emails etc.

Well if you are making Wordpress websites, you are bound to let them edit it because it comes with GPL 2.0 license (whether you agree or not). What I do is follow pure OOP concept for making these themes so that only the experienced devs understand them. You won't even find a "normal looking" template in the theme. So edit it if you can (but if you know how to use IDE, you can easily edit them)

Thanks for your input. You're right they need solutions.

I was thinking I could even outsource the building of the websites. I have even seem people on fiverr before offering 5 page wordpress sites, perhaps for $10-$20 if you want it installed etc. Do you think these sides would be full of problems? easy to hack? Then I wonder how me/ my clients would edit the site?

This is something I would not recommend to someone. Don't have experiences with this but I just don't believe those Fiverr guys so much

I design websites for small businesses using WordPress, and it works great locally. I'm currently focused on building my business plan, and plan of marketing, but once I get that stable I should have a great business going! I wouldn't suggest giving your clients a free website up-front, but I guess that's up to you as the designer. I personally charge clients $400-$1000 for a re/design, then they occasionally hire me on to make changes / updates at $20 / hr. rate.

I'm trying to figure out how I can turn my clients into residual income using re-seller hosting and maintenance contracts. Any resources for building your residual income as a freelancer would be greatly appreciated!
