Trust me dude, no links = no PR. Plus not all link checkers are accurate. If you have PR, you must have some links pointing to your site somewhere. Whether you built them or not.I disagree on some of the comments above. I have an site built with quality contents and left it unlink, not even a link was done nor added the site to any SEs. After 6 mths or so, it got a PR1. So here with proven example, I beloeve you do not need links to get PR. But I agreed linking with authority high PR sites can increase PR rapidly.
Someone said this in another thread. Is this true? I've never seen a site with legit PR that didn't have good links.

Backlinks are pretty much essential to any website with a Page-Ranking.

You are not right dude. Even if you can't see a backlink, doesn't mean that there isn't any. Check with a different backlink checker such as ahref which gives you more or less accurate result.
nice thread...
Whoever said that should reconsider his ability to make money online.
Ye but I dont think backlinks are always needed for a PR as little as 1... That isnt that difficult.
That chart is ancient, here's some proof:

This is wildly inaccirate, I have a PR5 site with less than 600 total links (in Majestic).
