A new google update running today ? 06/05

Love this "after Penguin, my sites...." sort of conversation

Penguin is an iterative process that - in 2012 - took the best part of 6 weeks to settle.
People have this idea Penguin ran - then 30 seconds later the sites were re-ordered.
That is so far from how it works.
It runs as an iterative sort - a complex one with likely all sorts of balancing factors and weightings and such like - but it takes flipping ages to settle.
Can't talk about "after Penguin" at all yet because chances are "Penguin" is probably only 1/2 way through.

SEO's already providing solutions to the Penguin 2 slap are a joke. For the same reason.

Scritty
That's why the term "newbies" had been created and the "dominate search engines" will be an endless business

All my sites have dropped dramatically. I was result 1-3 for more than 30 keywords now I am second to third page and not making any sales for my clients. Looks like my business is destroyed :0(

Yeah 2 of my sites are still shuffling between 1st and 6th position. Sometimes the social media is on top, other times google images even sneaks in prior.

I agree with Scritty, the dust hasn't even settled yet.

This is what I think is going on. I believe that Google is rotating through the cashed pages on their servers and examining the link structures from a historical perspective. The reason that I believe this is two fold:

1. One of my sites uses Yoast and I have the pages set to use the date as part of the title. Those dates are rolling back t earlier dates when I updated the pages.

2. When I update the pages, I save the Google search page. The dates and the serps are a close match for the dates that I updated the page, there are only a few differences.

While no one can be certain, this is what it appears to be to me.

Does any one have confirming or opposing information?

I've never seen them move so much in such short periods of time before though. If just penguin 2.0 still, why such giant swings today, out of nowhere?

My sites are all over the place. I think something's up as well. Ranking well for some terms, not so well for others...but that's the hamster wheel that we make our money off of, right? :D

I haven't noticed giant swings, I've noticed *this* shuffling since 2.0 was implemented.

I've got a much smaller portfolio these days (thank god). Looking at it though, there have certainly been some changes. It isn't like the penguin update but it looks like a bit of a refresh. Websites of mine with some dodgy links are done, others that have a much cleaner backlink profile are well up. In some cases that is ALMOST annoying, I'm going to have to make a few changes. Google has picked a strange, strange page to rank for a keyword on one of my sites. I have no idea why the algorithm chose that one, for gods sakes, but now I'm going to have to edit it since it is the chosen one. Sigh.

It's probably still penguin 2.0. doing it's rounds, most of my sites are pretty stable. One KW went from #6->#1 this morning but it could just be coincidence/dancing.

Ooooh. There is a niche that I want to break into. One of the top competitiors got slammed by Penguin, and they got even more slammed recently. Don't know if it was this update or not, but since the original roll-out they've dropped even more. Owch. Almost feel sorry for them; that is their full-time business.

nothing drastic change for my sites. But my frd told me his site disappeared from page 2 and you know what, all yhe site management is done by the local seo company.... hmmmm

One site of mine is stable, another one has completely dropped off which I just started SEOing hard a month ago but that is 3 years old.... Hopefully just dancing.

Some of my sites were badly hit. 2 of them went from 1st page to 3rd. Some were dancing all over the place :( Screw this update

The only thing Ive seen is sites going up, I assumed they were just dancing , but maybe it is the final update.

one of my site ranked higher, I think it's really happened

One of my main earners is wiped out of the top 500. Was top3-5 before. Survived every update until now.

-200 positions in rankings is not a good thing indeed. Weird movements on my end also. Many keywords on page 1 now slammed back to page 4-5. Some lost 200+ positions overnight.

All of them are brand name keywords since I'm building Amazon niche sites.

Anyone notice the same thing?
