Great thread OP. I read through it multiple times. It motivated me to start a couple series of books and a niche book. I have a kindle and borrowed your Kindle Gold book. I received the Kindle Direct Publishing Newsletter, and it mentioned that each borrowed book in April earned $2.27. That sounds amazing. So, I was wondering if you could divulge what ratios you are getting between full sales and borrows. I did a search on the amazon forum and it looked like it was less than 5% in most cases. Thanks again!

I think with books aimed at children, the cover is probably the important partIf they like that, the parents just have to buy it.
That's a proven fact..
just this morning I got 4 stars on one of my newly written/illustrated childrens book - im on top of the world right now for a book I created in 30 mins.

The situation is simple: good content is more profitable for EVERYONE in the long run. If you write a good book, you will get sales on all your other books because people will return. That's the way it has worked for me, they buy one, love it, and then come back for more! If the books are shit, you may have saved time, but you will lose future sales and you're affecting the market as a whole by corrupting the quality of Kindle as a whole and making people double think whether to spend their money.

lol one thing my books aren't is shitty! I'm a writer by nature and i master children's illustration. I wouldn't have gotten a 4 star review if it was.

Time management - before i got into publishing on kindle, I created a questionnaire/guideline to follow. I don't spend a whole hour looking at a blank screen trying to think about something to write. I came up with 20 creative titles which represents 20 books that need to be written.
I take one of those titles when I'm free and create a story, I let a few people on fb read,proof, edit and comment on graphics and text.
My author page has 7 books that is filled with 4- 5 stars nothing less, don't just assume because a book was written in less than 30 min is shit. I budget my time - now i can focus on marketing.

I created my own publishing company (really just an LLC). On the About the Publisher page, I list some of my other books that are related, with links to their Amazon pages (using my Amazon Associates ID, of course = more money).

Just finished reading the whole thread. However, living in Europe, makes me fall in the category of that TAX thing, despite the fact my country is on that other list someone posted, I still don't get it as I should and I think the wall in front of me and the kindle way just got bigger..

Check out kboards dot com, there are a lot of Europeans doing Kindle on there, they might have some country-specific advice.
