good! I remember when I got my first online client and after that its only gone up
good luck mate :)

Hey there everyone, I just wanted to post here so I can thank all of you who have helped me with starting up my own offline business!

For other newbies out there, all I did to land this client was reply to nearly a dozen Kijiji / Craigslist ads looking for Web Design / SEO.
I landed this client for $275 web design + logo creation (could be more I know).

I'm just soo damn happy! THANKS AGAIN BHW!

The mighty leads! it takes a lot of people a long time to figure that one out it seams. Great work once you get everything going really good find a good lead provider and start raking it in cash. + from me for working hard.

Wow, congratz. Did she ask for previous work? Or did you just show her your portfolio etc?

For this particular client I did not, but for these 2 other leads I am trying to convert right now have asked.

Like I said to seoactive, for this particular client I did not, but I had been asked for a portfolio/peices of work from these 2 other leads I've been pursuing. And about those clients... I'll PM you. ;)

Thanks my friend. I sincerely believe that as well. I'm just gonna keep pushing to find clients/leads until I make it big in this whole IM world.

So far everything has been great, and I plan on providing the best experience she can get. And asking for referrals isn't a bad idea at all, I'll be sure to ask as soon as the job is done!

Wow, this is great. So she just decided to give you the job without seeing your previous work? You are one lucky man :)

Congrats, you're competing with a lot of people on those sites

Aha thanks, I know I am. I messaged that I'd be interested in working on a site for her, she responded with some questions, and after 2-days of back and forth emails, I had landed my first client. :D

I would've thought so too, but in all honesty, there isn't. Most of the ads on Kijiji (in my area at least) regarding web-design are just ads by fellow web-designers promoting their service. However, when you finally find someone looking for web design, their ad has a small # of views in a lot of cases. Craigslist however is much more filtered and shows just the jobs people need, but doesn't give a view count sadly.

Congrats. I'd make sure their very happy with your work and get a testimonial from them to use for future :)

I hope you can keep us updated on your experience with your first client. How did it go so far? Have you completed her work yet?

UPDATE:

Alright, so I have gotten her to sign a contract explaining the service and what exactly I am providing (web and logo design). I had started making the site, but let her know I require 50% of payment before the project completion, and 50% after. I am currently waiting on the the first installment of the payment, and will finish the site.

Oh, and thanks to BHW again, I was able to upsell some SEO to her for a monthly fee. I'll try to keep you guys updated!
