Well,

I just put up my first story (SIFI End Of The World Story) that I wrote two years ago for a university paper. -- I got a 98% on it, and my prof said she loved it, so hopefully others will too, and it can make some money..

I put the price to 2.99 so i could have the 70%... Hope it sells a couple copies.. Honestly I would think it would be really cool just to say I have a published book...

Don't overlook the Free Day Giveaways. They can be huge, both to bump you up in the rankings and get some traction.

You can download the free Kindle Previewer Tool Thingy

It lets you preview how your document will look on a number of different Kindle varieties. Also, when you are uploading in KDP, after you upload the book, you can preview right from there, that's what I do. It's quick and easy.

Well, thought I would share the day so far...

My book was free today (day one of 5 day free-promo for my first ebook) so far its gotten 75 downloads... I hope I get A few good reviews from it. I am going to sell the book at $0.99 once the promo is done. The book is a short story that is about 16 pages on word.

It depends on the content. I've sold a 20 page (that's Kindle pages, much less on Word) short booklet for $2.99. It's one of only 2 books on the subject in the Kindle store. The other is longer, but it's $8.99. Mine sells way more than the other

Good job! 75 isn't bad for your first day (and if it's your first book). Throw it up on some of the free book giveaway sites, free book FB pages, twitter accounts, etc. You can double that number easily.

I think this is a very good idea, i have made a few e-books and looked into this before. As you say as long there is quality content and its not a saturated market, its very good. I think its best to find a niche and then write a high quality book, but then sell for less than the competition. Even if its less money, it dont matter as you will sell more books to even it out
Im going to do this as i planned. I just never got to do it.

I know this is a question most people don't like to answer, but what is your most profitable day and what would you say your average day is in terms of dollars? just curious as i've never thought the average writer could make anything decent.. but looks like your well on your way to proving it false, Great job!

Amazon will assign you an ISBN number when you upload your book, if you state that you own the copyright to it.

I do product launches myself not here but on WF. I am an infopreneur in IM niche.

This has potential and I am on it by all means.

I have read this thread from A-Z but I need to re-read it again.

My tasks:
-Find a writer that can write ebook for me on any niche.

-Pay him to do 3 books per week and upload them via KDP and announce the book (while it is free) on giveaway sites and facebook to attract downloads.

-Maybe get some friends to do honest reviews for me. (syndicates are powerful)

You'll quickly see what genres are hot right now. If you click on that genre from the left side, then you can see an overview of more specific niches in that genre. This will help you decide which niches are way too saturated, and where an opening might be.

#2: If you have ZERO interest in the niche, personally, and are going to be doing ANY of the writing or editing yourself, just stay away from that niche altogether. You can't produce quality content on a niche you have absolutely no interest in, and the readers will be able to see that very quickly. Stick to what you know and love, and that passion will shine through.

I wanted to get my feet wet so I took my grandma's cookbook and rewrote some of the recipes and put them into books. I published 2 cookbooks on Kindle and I also used the KDP But I have done it differently I had 2 days for free then 2 weeks of sales then 3 days for free. I have had over 700 downloads per day when I have offered them for free. In fact I had 1187 downloads of a pie book on memorial day. All this to say that YES it does work and yes you can make money at it. I am now working on 2 other books that are Sifi so I am looking forward to seeing how they do.

By the way Gob can you please tell me the website's you were referring to when you said "there are a number of website's that will post Free Kindle books" Can you please post a list of these URL's or PM me a list. Thanks I really enjoyed reading your thread and I learned some new tricks too. Thanks...

He was referring to free giveaway sites. Just Google free giveaway sites and search their traffic stats on Alexa and post your offer their if they are getting significant traffic (many of them are).

How many sales are you getting per day from your kindle books that you published?

Is it worth putting some sort of "other titles banner" with links inside your book, remember how you always got pictures of other titles on the inside back cover of paperbacks.

On another note, reports today say ebooks sales are up 25-35% on last year
