There's a great point, what do you put for the authors name? and do you in anyway brand them as part of a series in anyway? Cheers

Obviously, sales per day varies. I've sold 79 books today, if that helps.
I have 21 books online currently (and 2 more that will be published this week).
I don't know. None of my books have died and stopped generating income. If anything, they've grown. My #1 best seller (until my newest release last week) has been my #1 best seller for the past 2+ months, and shows no signs of slowing down.

It's all about picking a topic that is evergreen.

I can't speak for other Kindle people, but I suppose with some of the crazy fiction out there, people DO just buy random books. I don't know. I don't write fiction.

I write non-fiction only. These are topics that people don't care who the author is. They are after the information. That's the key. Write something about a topic that people are actively searching for information about (easy enough, with Google Keyword Tools). They type that keyword in on the Kindle store. Boom. There my books are. They don't care if John Grisham wrote it, or Joe Nobody. They just want the information.

I use different pen names for each different niche/topic. I then write numerous, related books related to that first book. Customers see my name pop up on similar books. I link to my other books inside my book at the end, so they find them there too. Apparently it works: just got a review today saying they're recommending the book to their friends and they're checking out the other books by the same author (me).
 
If you don't mind my asking, what are you current net earnings per day on this venture? About how many hours have you put into it?

Any tips on finding cheap quality writers Gob? I am having a really hard time. I have tried elance, and a few other websites but I am getting ridiculous quotes for my project. I may end up doing the writing my self because this is very frustrating.

Elance is the highest priced/best quality. When I first started, I used oDesk. You have to sift through a LOT of really terrible applications, but you can find some gems on there. And there rates are typically way less than Elance.
 
Great thread, but finding it hard to find a good niche. Looking through the links you posted I'm seeing mostly just romance stuff, even some like that in the non-fiction section.

Word. Just ordered my 2nd book today, I think 100+ nice books can generate really good income. My first book was a test, now I am just gonna improve a bit, and that's it.
BTW, OP, do you have images/graphics/charts in your books or you just go with text?

Well, romance and erotica are always at the top for a reason: people love their porn. If you're prolific enough, you can generate some serious sales.

Personally, I hired a ghostwriter on oDesk for one erotica short story, just to test the waters. I paid $15 for a story of about 3,500 words. I sell it for $2.99. It made me $12 today (so far), so it more than pays for itself in a day or two.

It's truly one area where it's all about scale though. Crank them out quick and make them under all the same pen name. Customers will buy one, and go hunt out your others.

It's not all golden though: Apart from IM, erotica and romance are THE most saturated genres. It's much more difficult to stand out.

Good job, take action, that's the only way to move forward!

I've only used images for... 2 of my books. Honestly, it's mostly because I hate trying to format images perfectly for the Kindle, it's a pain in the arse. If I was doing something where pictures or charts would really add a lot to the book, I would pay someone on Fiverr to make sure they were all formatted properly. I've seen some really slick looking books sell well with pictures. Just not something I've mastered yet.

Thanks for your reply, I wasn't asking for advice on that genre, just more tips / info on picking good niches for this.
 
Just wondering what software you need to make the ebooks, like do you upload them in a PDF, or what?

Well,

I just put up my first story (SIFI End Of The World Story) that I wrote two years ago for a university paper. -- I got a 98% on it, and my prof said she loved it, so hopefully others will too, and it can make some money..

I put the price to 2.99 so i could have the 70%... Hope it sells a couple copies.. Honestly I would think it would be really cool just to say I have a published book...
