Guys: Kindle is the Ticket!

I really appreciate you bringing this up. Back before I started working on my site, this was actually something that I had planned on doing. I got so obsessed with SEO that I forgot all about it. I have heard a few people say that this is a wonderful opportunity for passive income. I found out about it mid 2012 from a guy on YouTube. One of his subscribers supposedly sent him proof that he had made around 20k doing this. I don't know if this was with 1 book or more though. He kept saying that you can't go wrong writing about ways to make money. That topic is probably saturated now but I'm sure you could add a twist to it. Why not step up in your game. start selling all your books on the following networks:

1) Iphone/ipad.

2) Google play store.

3) EBay (yes people buy books from there, but they usually suck).

I've experimented with this. None of it was even close to the profit I get from KDP Select. The thing is, Amazon is one of the most visited sites in the world. And Amazon loves people that enroll in KDP Select. What does that mean? They'll promote my book for free. And they're powerful promoters.

Once you start selling outside of Amazon, they stop promoting. And, so far at least, I've found any slight gain in sales from other locations is miniscule compared to KDP Select sales.

Totally dependent on genre and quality of your book. I have some that are $2.99, and one at $9.99. People buy the more expensive one because it's in a niche where all books are expensive. But you don't want to overprice yourself. I'd rather sell 10 at $2.99 for $20 profit, than 1 at $9.99.

I remember when I released non fiction ebook and put it to KDP. It was during christmas. I made XXX in some days. But I dont know how everybody can make KDP on autopilot. I have 10 fiction books. Pages 20-70 , nice covers. Have one sale so far after some months and when I put ebook for free promotion I rarely get 100 downloads.

This can work but the challenge is in getting noticed among the 135,000 ebook titles added by Amazon every year to their retail site. Amazon only has a 45% share of all ebook sales globally!

There are many scams including WSOs that claim to rank your ebook high at Amazon. Almost all are variations of finding niches that are competitively weak and placing your ebook in that niche regardless of your original subject matter. There are also a number of schemes on how to get the appropriate positive book reviews as well among well known Amazon reviewers.

Tackle these issues in your campaign and you can make money from ebooks. Rep to GoBluthJD for pointing this method out to BHW members.

I can take a look at it, if you want, and see if there is any glaring mistake that you can easily fix.

Totally agree. I would stay away from any WSO offering "guaranteed Kindle success!". Nobody can guarantee success. I'm just sharing what's worked for me. I've gotten a lot of great, free advice here, so if anyone can take what's worked for me, and tweak it so it works for them, that'd be great.

You don't need to spend money on WSO's to learn the material!

I've always been interested in Kindle as I've been a writer most of my life, but people were saying you had to promote your books heavily yourself otherwise you were dead in the water. The fact that you say you are getting these 'passive' sales without actively having to promote the books yourself is encouraging news.

I have a question:

How long after you upload a book do you begin to see steady sales? Does it take weeks or even months to see decent sales?

Well, through trial and error, I've found a system that works for me. If you enroll in KDP Select, you can list your book for free for up to 5 days in every 90 day cycle (I believe). So what I do, is when the book is first launched, I make it free for 5 days in a row, right away. Then, there are a number of websites that will post Free Kindle books, so I submit my free book to those sites, for some extra juice.

Usually this results in a lot of free downloads. These, in turn, make your book jump to the top of the chart for its genre. You'll also get a couple of reviews, if the book merits it. Then, after the 5 days of free, you have a book sitting at the top of the charts, with a couple good reviews, and people are MUCH more inclined to buy a book at the top of the charts with good reviews!

Great share. I actually have one of my former writers leave so that she can start in the amazon kindle publishing industry, not exactly being a writer. It seems the recurring theme is that it take a little bit to build up, but ultimately you gain momentum.

Speaking of Amazon, anybody heard of the new Amazing Selling Machines? It sounds promising, although they've already closed their doors. Sounds like an interesting way to sell on amazon (that I certainly never thought of at least)

I make the covers myself. It's really easy, with free stock photography sites, and a decent photo editor. I used to get them off Fiverr, some good, some bad, until I decided that's an area of the process I could save money and just do it myself.

Great post. Agreed that there is a ton of work to do in getting a bunch of books live on Kindle. From that point onwards, it can be autopilot income for quite a while.

Your saying they just search around and say, "hey, heres a book about a cop losing his job written by joe nobody, sweet lets download it for $3" ???
Really? Can you show me an example of one of your books please? PM me. I mean if they do Im going to start writing, sounds like a nice way for long term passive income
