How Hard is it to Hit The Thanks Button?

I have to agree with Nigel.. help if you want to help, if you don't want to, then don't. But if you help, do it out of good heart and don't expect anything in return.

Thats why I do do it. My point is that if you can't even be bothered to say thanks, then you did not deserve that help in the first place.

I think people should mind their own business, and not worry about what other people do.

Jesus H. Christ! What does a guy have to do in order to get thanks around here? This post is the single best post in the entire fucking thread, and what thanks do I get? NONE! Even after I called you all a bunch of goddam ingrates, did you get the hint and start thanking me? HELL NO! I can't believe you people, the way you act after I give you this bountiful bit of worldly wisdom. Not even the Bible has such densely packed and deep meaning in so few words. I've taken just about everything anyone would need to know for the rest of their lives, and have handed it to you all, free of charge, so that you can follow this principal and succeed for the rest of your lives.

But do you thank me for this? HELL NO! What's with you people. All I have to say is that you better start thanking me, or I'm going to do something truly radical and prove how valuable my advice is. I'm going to start charging you for it. Yep. No more free-loading parasites sponging off the sweat from my brow, the fruits of my labors and the seed from my loins, no-sir-ee, I tell ya, IMA start CHARGING you folks for all this free, highly valuable advice and then you'll all be sorry for being the low-life ingrates that you are. SHEESH, you people disgust me, the way you take and take and take and never, ever give anything back, not even the highly valuable and deeply desired "Thanks" button.

So that's it, you people. I'm throwing down the glove here. Start thanking me, or else BAD THINGS are going to happen. Buncha damn ingrates, why back in WWII we never had anything like this...

You sound kind of angry mate. This isn't an attack on you.

Let me say this again so it's nice and clear for you to understand: Forum thanks are not going to pay my rent. Whether I get 10k thanks or zero for a post makes no difference to my life. It is a question of manners.

If you helped someone in the real world, let's saying towing a strangers car that had broken down and the said stranger just walked off at the end without a word, wouldn't you think he was rude and disrespectful? Wouldn't that piss you off? Well here is no different. Saying thanks (or hitting the thanks button) is free and takes milliseconds.

No, I don't do things to get thanks. Yes I do think it's rude when people don't thank me or others when they are helped. I guess some people are just pigs.

I noticed you have thanked a few people yourself. If it's not such a big deal, why did you bother?

Because it's not about "manners". It's about perceived value, and people that go around giving away things for free do not have the power to determine whether or not what they've given away for free is of any value. I could give you a handful of warm shit, then bitch about how ungrateful you are because you didn't express adequate appreciation for it.

That is what you are doing here, right in this thread, post after post after post, still failing to get the point. Failing to appreciate most of what I've said here, and by "appreciate" I do not mean "feel a sense of gratitude", I mean "to adequately understand".

How can I expect you to be grateful for something that you are incapable of even understanding? It's ridiculous and would be rather stupid of me to show up at a kindergarten and start telling them all about Ohm's Law, then start whining and carrying on about how they don't thank me enough. That's whats happening right here. You, in particular, have missed most of what I've said, and most others have as well. I suspect some get it, and either do not think it's substantive enough to thank (or Rep+) me for it, or the assume (correctly) that thanks and/or rep+ is valueless and an empty and meaningless expression. I post what I post with a certain measure of hope that it does some good, and with no expectations at all. If I expected to get something in return, I would sell my thoughts for money, as I referenced earlier in the thread. Problem with THAT is, you find out how valueable you really are (or are not) when you put yourself up for sale. Meaning, 99.9% of what you read on this (and any other) forum is pure shit. Yet look at the sheer volume of "Thanks" there are. All these "Thanks" for all this meaningless drivel sort of reduces the value of a "Thanks", don't you think? And yet, here you are, bemoaning the backsliding into barbarism of Western Civilization because someone doesn't appreciate a post about using 16 pt font instead of 12, as it has more "visual impact" (and other smarmy, market verbage, all of which is completely meaningless).

Part of what I'm saying here is that it's a big-wide universe; bigger than you imagine, and what you are attempting to do is reduce that universe down to a fundamental level of polite vs. impolite, with polite being "good" and impolite being "bad", and of course with you as the arbitor of what is good or bad.

And I'm telling you that you are wrong; the universe is bigger than that, and also that you are wrong and that you aren't qualified to determine what is good and what is bad, and finally what is REALLY going on (I think) is that you have dumbed down the "known universe" in order to help assuage your feelings of inadequacy and inability to control certain things in your real life, and are attempting to demonstrate adequacy here in order to compensate.

See all that, up there ^^^^ ? That's REAL substance, and not juvenile meanderings of no use to anyone. Note the absence of me begging for thanks and then whining because I don't get them. Men don't behave that way. Children do. My post, my thoughts stand on their own, or they do not. People that read them understand them, or they do not. They find value in them, or they do not. Nothing I say or do afterwards is going to change any of that. I have exactly one chance to influence those that read my words, and after that all I can do is undermine their impact and water-down their relevance. I set these words loose on an infinite ocean and what happens afterwards is completely out of my control.

@nigel

Mate, I understand your comments and agree with most of it, but what I think is discussed here is those people that "grab" something you shared, with a percepted value for them and they don't give a fk about thanking (or anything, for that matter). You sig says that if you plant Corn, you get corn. It's true. But if you plant corn and give it away for free, at least what you should expect is a thank you, because you had a lot of work planting that shit. Even if people buy your corn, after you sell it, you say thanks to your buyer. Just sayin...

I'm not failing to understand what you are saying, I am disagreeing with it.

If you think manners don't matter or make a difference, then that's your opinion and you have a right to that, but I disagree with your post of self perceived "real substance" (which I thank you for).
