When buying ad space do you guys prefer impressions or monthly set payments?
Kudos for starting a Media Buy and entering the exciting world. Just some comments:
- great job doing a controlled test of 20,000 impressions to each ad.
- always keep industry averages in mind, CTR to be expected would be .2% which would drive 40 clicks from each ad.
- At the industry average you are paying $.50 per click at your CPM rate.
Knowing those averages and numbers, try and reach out to your advertiser that you are an affiliate for and see if they have any information on expected conversion rates on their sales page. They should have some type of idea, especially if it has some gravity. If they tell you, 2% for example.
100 clicks should produce 2 sales.
100 clicks cost you $50
2 sales makes you $70
At industry averages you are making $20 in profit.
Try to get as much information from your advertiser as possible.
In regards to monthly versus impressions.... first buy impressions to learn more about the sites traffic, then scale the operation to a monthly impression count.
FYI, 20,000 impressions on each ad is a decent amount, but may not provide enough information as at the average you are only going to see 80 clicks.
