Thank you for posting this. It is hard to find some quality tips out there on the basics of getting traffic / authority / page rank. So many people are trying to buy there way in only to get smacked down by Google on the next update, when a little hard work into building some web 2.0's like you mentioned above and getting active in the social media will do the trick quite nicely.

The key to an authority site is having very detailed information within your pages. Don't leave any stone unturned and don't be afraid to link out to other authorities as well (Wikipedia as an example). When someone lands on your page, they should have the following answered: who, what, how, where and why.

With solid content, the types of links the OP mentioned will surely be of benefit.

That is true. The purpose of being an authority is indeed covering all the different kinds of subjects around one big subject.

Actually,

an authority site can't be authority without content. You can't be authority or rank for hard keywords with just a bunch of articles.

to be called in "authority" the content should be the "best". and the best means its very unique and good and you'll learn something.

there is different definition for "authority site" for different people, few BST sellers are making fun with it. i brought "SUPER AUTHORITY CRAP" where seller was claiming its best authority site.
i suggest you build you own site, for a particular niche, research well, write unique content regularly, content that can bring user back to your site. IMO weekly 3-4 articles are enough but you can add more if you wish to.

you'll see the different in 6 month with traffic and response from your users.
