The Ultimate Amazon Thread Mark 2 - Q/A - Good/Bad

Software like Keyword Squire is good to have but I suppose not many have the luxury to afford it before they even start making money.

So for the benefit of those who want to do it manually via the free Google Keyword Tool, Danny can you briefly go through the important concepts/ideas on how we go about analysing keyword competitions?

Lastly, assuming I found a buying keyword "buy xxx xxx" and the sites sitting on the top 3 listing are: Amazon, Bestbuy and Currys. According to your expertise, on a scale from 1-10 where will you rate this keyword toughness?

My strategy is ...... you reap what you sow --- sticking with my way will get you a consistent check every month for hopefully years to come -- poor profiles like that will crash and burn ... but I am not to say what is right or wrong that's your choice as to what to do with the information in this thread.

And I agree too - keyword tools are fine and give you a guide as to what you should be looking at - but the data is not 100% accurate -- but like they say we all have to start somewhere... you have to acquire knowledge from somewhere and that's a place to start.

Thats a good question - If I saw Amazon Bestbuy Staples and Walmart as the Top 4 for a keyword I wanted to rank for - I would rate my success rate as fairly easy - because I know those sites aren't optimized for the answers I would be providing - and after 2 months I should be dominating ..... but that is me and my experience with a strategy in place ready to go.

For someone out of the box - starting their first site - then obviously its more likely to be harder to achieve the result you want.

Also its easy for me to say this because I'm already making money - but what if it takes me 6 months instead of 2 months - to me that's no big deal - but again to someone doing their first site they are probably pretty irritated. So to answer your question if you do everything right and use great content then its very doable.

I bought extra ip's and created a bunch of accounts and allocate related sites to different accounts (not necessary for most)

If your creating a Blog Network your developing for links then it would be essential to use a bunch of hosts etc. as your suggesting.
Why do you need different IP's and hosting?

If you build 10 sites and they are non related it means nothing.

He was asking me what do I do when I build 3-5 sites on the same niche targeting slightly different terms - because I know from Sales this niche is very profitable.
Well I purchase extra IP's and create different accounts and seperate them -- for 99/100 people this means little.

Also I refer to creating a "Blog Network" that you create - so you can build backlinks for other sites or client sites ... here you cannot leave a footprint especially if you sell links on the network so you need different hosts and lots of different Ip's .... don't want to go into this too much more - as its a bit of a distraction at this point for most people.

Oh I see okay thanks for explaining.

Couple of extra notes :

* Just also want to say one more thing on people building sites and spamming them to death : Like anything this can be a profitable business practice - who cares if you put in $70 and get out $300 and Google Deindexes you .. its one way to go ...... but just not what I am personally doing here

* This particular thread involves having some start up capital ... for some people that's domain/hosting for others it might be keyword tool/domain/hosting/vps and again for others they might want SeNuke/VPS/10 domains and hosting/keyword tool and proxies.
---> there is not much I can do about that - personally I did it the hard way and built up as I didn't know this would work when I started either
---> so it maybe a good idea for many to do content locking/cpa first and build up some money and then develop this as your long term money maker .... all I can do is give you what I know works - you have to fit that to your personal situation and your goals.

* also as you can see from the responses so far - everyone has a slightly different background and knowledge - so if you don't know something - you need to read up on it - or watch some youtube videos or ask some questions - and I'm sure myself and others will do our best to provide some answers .... but again this is going to be a learning experience I'm sure for many.

Hi,

Just got a few questions :
- Do you use directly your aff link or do you shorten it like : yoursite.com/product1 ?
- Do you add some disclaimer/some text saying you're affiliated with amazon anywhere on the site ?

Thanks !

* Links are in the Site itself - I'm not spamming them externally -- they are in the form of text links, image links or attached to buttons people click.
* Yes it is required.

op great to see your Azone tread here.I was foffowing the other thread , one doubt i am having i came across a theme which offers 90day cookies , is it ok to use that will Amazon able to find out this .

Those type of cookies basically ask the user to add the item to their cart first ... I'm sure there's probably evidence as to which is better long term - but I don't have any either way.

If you think you've got a shortcut for beating Google by using existing Amazon reviews - or mix mashing them up -- go ahead and try it - I'm giving you one way that I know works - I very much doubt that sites built that way will last long - but that means nothing really its just my opinion ... wish you luck with it.

I don't want to beat GG (not posible I guess, on the long run), just want to simplify the process, assuming that even if you make everything BH you take the risk to loose all your stuff at the next algo refresh... You don't decide, GG does.

In my opinion there's no need to spend too much time on a website, there's too many chances it gets tanked, even if you have done everything the right way.

If you loose a website, just make another one... that"s my philosophy

Danny with the latest Google update would you still suggest to go for EMD? Did you see any rankings dropping that were EMD niches? I see Google stopped EMD from being an advantage, and I worry they may penalise emds with small content.

* I love EMD's but if you don't want to use one that's up to you.

Had a question this morning about trying to get more traffic and more earnings to 2 Amazon Sites and wondering whether the niche is good or not.

My standard answer to this is - 2 Amazon Sites is just not enough - traffic will rise and fall simply because those products are not going to be popular every day .. You really need 10 Sites targeting different niches and then just keep working on your Seo slowly each day .... I see big differences in Daily Earnings myself due to this - so of course it's going to happen to you.

Again - every niche is profitable - you just have to find your niche in a niche and be the best at it you can be.

What have we learnt so far ?

Every person while having similar issues figuring it out and developing their own strategy needs different things.

* Some needed help choosing a theme
* Some didn't know what a keyword tool was or how to use them to search long tails and traffic
* Some are struggling coming to terms with understanding that Articles - are meant to target answering buyers questions before they purchase the items -- we are no Walmart/Target/Best Buy - offering the products with little to no information
* Some are still trying to figure out how to incorporate inserting Affiliate Links into your sites via text links / image links or button links.

I think try to narrow down your difficulties to specifics and then learn how to do it --- this is not going to happen in a day -- but by hopefully getting through your first site -- from then on it will be much easier.

hey danny thats a great thread you have started
can you show us how you select products on the basis of keywords, i have issues with off page seo and keyword research when it comes to amazon.

You are thinking of it opposite to me :

If you want to do Keyword to Product - Keyword Squire does that - it gives you a list of related Amazon Products

I'm more looking at $300+ Products first and then finding keywords - especially ones that have alot of accessories. If it's too tough or the long tails don't make sense I move on.

It's not hard to find great products to sell - Great Products have 200+ reviews with good ratings - crap products well you know the drill ... you can also chase new products if you like - but that's not what I do. Just for example Keyword Squire for one Main Keyword may return 10,000 long tails you can narrow down and look at.

(Just remember I don't value the data as high as other people might - its not updated that often and selling this stuff - Sites naturally see more traffic at certain times than others -- Summer/Winter/Xmas that type of thing)

Really it is spending time going through Amazon and finding them - or using a tool to do the work for you and working the other way back.

Don't restrict your thinking so much that you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Also the part I don't get is for this type of question.

Say you are looking at Wireless Routers using our example -- why don't you just go find the Keywords other Amazon Sites are using and check those out ? See what products they are using to bring in traffic .... your not on an island with no boat ... do a little research whatever the product/niche is.

Themes :

Any discussion of themes is a personal decision and any time you use a theme you should learn how to mod it - so as to get the most out of it and allow for maximum visitor satisfaction.
I want to stress that if you don't take care on your presentation and just grab a theme - throw on content and don't make much effort you are just shooting yourself in the foot.

My personal choice is to favor Magazine Themes where you can present the answers / set up nice product boxes / provide reviews and add additional content - that is well organized. You may however not want to spend so much time learning how to do that - so you may choose to go with a review type theme.
