The Ultimate Amazon Thread Mark 2 - Q/A - Good/Bad

Danny,
I read your entire previous thread and was a little surprise and sorry to see it's fiery end. Sure glad to see you start this thread as I'm just getting started with big A and could use some guidance. I have found only a couple of products/niches that I think I've got a shot of ranking in the top 3 spots. While searching for products to go after, I'm finding it rather difficult to find something that nobody else is already doing. The low hanging fruit has already been picked clean. Any high tech or kitchen stuff for example, is overcrowded and should be avoided, do agree?

Do you think it's ok to have many unrelated products under one domain/website? Since EMD's don't have an edge anymore, I was thinking I can have something like greatstuff.com and do a bunch of different products in there. I'd be saving money in domain fees if I didn't have to have 20 different domains for 20 different products/niches.

Do you use youtube to drive traffic? If so, what kind of videos do you make? Do you use any special software?

Exactly what I needed. Subscribed and waiting for updates :)

Answers :

No Niche is Saturated you can make money in any niche/product you want - as higher difficulty really means there is way more search traffic - so you will get probably more traffic than for something less popular anyway.

EMD - I use EMD so people can see what type of site mine is - it helps filter people before they come to my site - so when they do come they are pretty ready to buy.
---> some people in the last thread were going to try what you suggested 1 domain many niches/products - I have never done it that way so I can't guarantee any results doing it that way.

Yes Domain cost is an issue for some people - thats why you should shop for these 99 cent specials for the first year to see if its profitable or not - then just renew if it is. Personally I can make any site and make it get me back Domain and Content cost -- but I'm looking for $100 a month from every site so that is something different of course.

Youtube - I paid someone to make me 1 Professional Video on a $249 product about a year ago - and it gets traffic still and I also sell accessories related to that product -- so yes I have done some video marketing and I have video marketing tools from other services I offer to clients but I have not done it to the extent your probably asking.

I would use Windows Movie Tool or Animoto to make videos -- MVB to load them and I have a watermarker software I forget the name of it - I paid about $25 for it though to watermark my videos.

You can also buy PLR Video Reviews from WF if you like - they are normally $10 for a pack.

I would discuss these other ways to make money more after I finish with the Seo side of the business which is my specialty .... I'll be back with another post later today - I have some work to get done first.

Additional Notes From Yesterday :

1. Even though I target alot of $500 + products I sell alot of accessories for those products because people realize you need them.... and anyone who has built an Amazon Site will be able to tell you it does happen alot - so spend the time to add an accessory page - because it will bring you Sales.

For example IPad - if you got an Ipad you need the best case / the best charger / the best stylus / the best apps you need all kinds of little pieces to make your Ipad the most useful it can be -- and even myself I search for this type of information to see what other people are using -- it engages the reader and makes them more likely to click things.

2. Autoposting - you can add products / links etc manually or you can use an autoposter - so I use Wp Robot to make up a Post on a product and then add all my stuff to it -- I also use Custom Buttons on the post to make it look better. You can make these yourself by looking on Google / Using Photoshop or going to BHW Download Section and getting a graphics pack that contains buttons. Then just load them into your site and use them in your posts ....... do everything you can to make a good looking site.

3. You notice I list SpinnerChief and Chimp reWriter above -- those are not for use on my money site - those are used to Spin content on my tiered links and in some PDF Submissions -- so don't think that I cut corners on Money Site Content - I don't -- but you need tools like that to speed up your overall link building strategy.

Lets Look At Some Examples :

Site 1 : http://bestwirelessroutersreviews2013.com/

Site 2 : http://best-turkey-fryer-reviews.com/

Site 4 : http://bakingbites.com/2010/08/cooks-illustrated-picks-the-best-nonstick-pans/

Site 5 : http://a1-rated-gadgets.com/

Site 6 : http://cordlessdrillsreviews.com/73/makita-6347dwde-cordless-drilldriver/

Site 7 : http://vimeo.com/54262086 ... Video

Site 8 : took this one down as per request just search tents ... Squidoo example

Anyway look through the Sites - see what you think and how each is structured / strengths / weaknesses - and what you would do better.

Then when I post my how I would build a site compare them -- and then move onto making your own site.

(I don't own any of the above sites - if you do and want it taken down just let me know) .. cheers.

can we get some examples on themes? im using flexsqueeze theme right now but i wanna see if there are better themes to improve conversion.

OP Awesome thread! I just recently also started doing Amazon Affiliate. So far, I been doing it for about 2-3 weeks. No earning yet, but this some good weed! Bookmarked and will be following closely to find out what exactly I am doing wrong.

Notes :

* I - Framing is out
* Those are not my sites - and your right no-one should post their money sites on BHW - if anyone owns those sites please let me know and I will take it down.
* That's a Magento Site I'm pretty sure - Magento for me has been a total failure as well - made 2 sales recently but hardly worth it compared to using WP
* Themes will be done tomorrow -- sorry but I just can't sit in the thread all day and not get any work done -- got to pay the bills as well LOL -- anyway check back tomorrow.

Hi Danny,

Just wanted to say its great to see you back creating a new Amazon thread since i have been reading your last thread and taking some very helpful notes which i am very grateful for. It was such a shame to see the last thread closed down so quickly but a fresh start is sometimes needed i guess!

I do have some questions similar to Radiant that if you could add some guidance on would be great..

-Im struggling to think of idea's / find niches to sell. As a start would you advise to use Amazon best 100 list, go through each category and pick out desired products i would want to promote?

-I noticed you get EMD's for your niches, this is great if they are available but cant seem to find any available for the niches i want to sell in currently, even using hyphens in between them! What would you suggest in these situations? e.g. add review | reviewer at the end?

-What would you recommend would be the lowest local search you would start with when doing keyword research?

-I am from the UK so i would imagine i would want to use the UK amazon associates? If so should this mean i should go for the co uk domain to help improve my serp rankings, or would it be best to always try for the co m ?

-Depending on the above, if a user came from the US for example and clicked on the product is there a way to take them to their country specific amazon for this item?like a GOIP forwarder. (depending if the item is available) I would just want to make sure i get this right before starting and i wouldn't want to lose the sale just because the country barrier.

Your help is much appreciated. I am very much looking forward to this thread progressing.

Hi everyone,

I decided to start a new Amazon thread because I got quite a few people wanting to post their results and get moving again .. so after a break I decided let's get too it.

The first thing I want to say is this thread is for BHW members to figure out how to make money / what to do and to share good and bad experiences -- it is not for BST sellers to come in and spam their Products/Results or whatever else they try to do to promote their services.

If I write something about a service or product in this thread its because I paid for it and it helped me make money ... if you have a similar experience then I welcome you to post what it is and what it did for you to help you make money with Amazon.

This time I welcome anyone to respond to questions / provide better answers than I can or help other members in any way -- rather than me just ramble on all the time.

Lastly what I put into this thread is what makes me money .. it is not the only way to do Amazon and there are many ways to approach this and hopefully this time we can talk about the other methods more.

So jump in and let's discuss Amazon which I view as one of the must join programs on the web today - Amazon is trusted / you get paid - and sometimes you get commission for products you don't even market.

Ok with that said - let's get this thread going......... Best of Luck to us All in 2013.

Hi There, Site 8 in your list of links is my lens, can you please remove the link I would appreciate it. Thanks :)

the tools you stated you use earlier in the thread being i am a noob was just wondering if they are all subscription type of things or could they be downloaded from torrent sites (just to see if they are worth the cost) ?

So happy to see you pack, I just started building site depending on last thread.

Like others I am glad to see you back, since you started a new thread can you gloss over your basic strategy for us?

Keyword volume- do you have a target or do you just go for what you want to go for?

Backlinks- You manage several sites, so do you just automate all the backlinks or do you still do manual tier 1 and automate the rest? (part II if you automate all, what is the lifespan of the sites ranking so far?)

Themes- Have you found review themes better converters than shopping themes?

You went over content and such, looks like articles+reviews and see how it ranks and the money coming in, if good add more content, if bad leave it alone....

Updates :

* I'm not sure how you could struggle to find a niche Amazon sells just about every product under the sun - why don't you just start with something you know first
* EMD's are available for every niche - if your stuck just go to the niche your looking at - see what are ranking well and come up with something similar - getting domains is one of the easiest things.
* This question always comes along - search volume minimum CPC when searching blah blah blah .... those stats aren't updated very often and they don't take into account that products sell at different times of the year -- so for 6 months they may not sell much but for the next 6 months they sell alot --- summer vs winter and stuff like that .... look at the overall niche and see how strong it is - then start picking off the long tails one at a time ...... people generally have no clue about the real world and making money themselves -- they sell you a tool and say you gotta have this and you gotta have that ...... use your brain.
* UK I have no idea - try it and tell us how you do
* there are scripts to geo target products/visitors but all Amazon products are not available everywhere and in general they may not be the same number - so you would probably have to forward to a searched page not an exact page ... if someone came up with a perfect solution I'd pay for it - but I haven't seen one to date.
* You have 1 post and joined in January - I took it down - but you should be sharing your experiences with Squidoo and Amazon and helping people make some money.
* Again I don't live and die by a specific number - I look at the competition see how hard/easy it would be -- then look at longtails and start putting something together for it .... you have to remember I have trialled/errored alot - so I know how to put a site together - so its going to get search traffic .... that seems to be a common thing people not understanding what makes a good site and what makes a bad site .... the answer is try it - experiement - change stuff up and when you arrive at your "secret sauce" then scale it.
* BackLinks are the same strategy for me - content / spin / automate - then add high quality links individually that other people would generally ignore ... my sites sell -- but they sell in cycles - they don't sell every day / or even every month when they are out of season .... you also get alot of Sales when they are featured on TV - you get a storm come or a celebrity uses a product.
* Themes - I prefer Magazine themes every day of the week compared to shopping themes. Shopping themes you get more chance of having crap rankings and people moving on - they want information before making some of these purchases and these days it takes 3 seconds to move onto the next site --- shopping themes are for CL, Social Networks and Stuff Like that.

I never promised that Amazon would be easy -- but the secret is test test test and when you "figure" it out - with Site / Content / Traffic so it makes sense money wise then scale.

Alot of people say well I want to know this / that or something else - I want the magic number to search for - I want the magic domain - How much does this cost - how much do you spend per site per month on seo etc ...... the answer to all these questions is simple -- the cost to start 1 site is up to you --- Domain / Hosting is all you need the rest can be done manually - that's what I did.

Now alot of what I do is just management as I have a process to follow ..... so I think more people should do this more efficiently such as :

Take Notes / read all the Amazon threads / search Google look at more sites / pick a niche look at the competition / choose keywords-long tails ---- > then put your theme/content and graphics out there and see how the visitors like it......... if your not getting sales after 3 months - then Change how you present your content - change up how people click affiliate links etc.

Anyway thats my ramble for the morning - I will work on the themes and Post my opinions/links later in the day.

I was thinking on this Domain - Long Tail Issue that some people seem to be really struggling with and how to perhaps make life easier.

Simply get a keyword tool - something like Keyword Squire - Market Samurai etc and enter your main keyword - and have the tool scrape up thousands of keywords/long tails

then filter by some minimum search number - remembering I'm not big on these tool numbers ..... but anyway that should give you at least 100-1000 words to look for a domain
from and ideas to get articles written on - and how to build your site around.
