Building a site just for one keyword is very suspicious, isn't it? Meta description will be considered part of your content and since it's on top of your page it counts more than let's say a footer reference. If you wite the same document and put your Meta Desc. as the first sentence of your page, it will yield the same position.

No it isn't.

You might RANK HIGH with one keyword, your site will will rank somewhere in the serps for all permutations and many synonyms of that keyword, (because it is a phrase), across all match types, exact match, phrase match, and broad match.

Even if all you had on the page was one keyword, it will broad match many other different keywords.

Ive ranked a site to 1st rank with no content at all. Using (title, meta desc, H1, H2, outlink to authority page and image)

I too also moved a site up from 11 to 3 by edited JUST the meta description.


editing the meta description DOES affect SERP.

Meta tags are still play a big role. i got many keywords ranks just by doing proper meta tags. not just 5-10 keywords. more than 500+ keywords jumped after applying meta tags one by one.

One more Golden Nugget for TITLE tags:
If possible and make sense (Don't keywords stuff) use keywords twice in Title tags. one with singular and other with plural.

don't forget to use your keyword on picture. insert it as 'alt tag' at the image
