Ebay for a living?

Used to make 30k a year selling jewelry about 9 years ago. Then it dropped to $0. Now I don't sell at all on eBay. Too much time for too little money

eBay can be your total and complete source of life income. Many people live comfortable just selling on eBay.
Although this is not a 5 minute business and it takes time and allot of determination. However in the long run
you will be happy in this business. At least I am =)

I can making a living salary however not for long. There's no way I can continue what I'm doing for more than the next 2 or 3 years. eBay is not secure at all.

Nothing is really secure. Not even a offline business. Make the money and invest it is the only way.

Chinese guys are selling directly to customers from ebay. So the market for us is very down.

If you're any good at SEO, get a niche product off worldwidebrands.com - show up organically (make sure you have decent profit per sale, like $100-$500). No fees to pay, no one telling you what you can and can't do. good luck.

No way with those sky rocketing fee and chargebacks and that stupid feedback system which allows only buyers to post negative feedback. Every seller will eventually be screwed.

I'm on eBay but my main focus is my eCommerce websites. In 2009 I took all of the categories I worked in and started my own sites - didnt make any sales at all for about a year then went to a "eBay Advanced" class in Chicago by Silas Hart and then configured out how to pull customers from eBay and get customers to my own site which is one of the final steps of the eBay Advanced class.

But I know a lot of the people through that class that now make 7 figures a year in profit just from eBay, but theres no way I could do it.

Sure, you can still make a great living of egay - as long as you have:

A nice old top rated seller account - who is going to buy from a 10 feedback account?
A nice clean record with paypal so they don/t hold your funds forever.
A great, honest supplier in china for all sorts of china goods.
A super cheap shipping company and a friend at the postal service.

And when you think you are really raking it IN( sliding in them nice Super A fakes ) they pull the plug

Ebay is very hard market to make money... but hey... every business is hard to start and hard to take it to the level when you can use it for a living.
Consider opening a restaurant... It will take 2-3 years when you see real money from it.
If you want to live from Ebay you need live for Ebay. You need to invest all your time in it.

As someone said earlier in this thread, if you are not sourcing your product from China or do not have a very cheap source...you are going to have a bad time.

I was able to source product from Asia, but it was still cut throat. eBay/Amazon and such would only account for 10-20% of sales. I had much better results with marketing and selling to bigger distributors under my own brand.
