    oh yes they are ....

heres a thing i did some time ago

search for 'how to dvd' on egay
pick one with generic picture (this tells you its either in public domain or ripped). Look at other dvds the seller sells (they all do more than one). Look up the sellers feedback for sales, pick the ones that do well, wait for the auctions to close, buy late cheap.
Do this for a few niches.
Your now gonna be doing the same as them, but better sales page

    layout costs
    100 x dvd = £10
    100 x plastic sleeves = £2.50
    100 x cardboard envelopes/jiffy bags = £ up to £10
Dvd's off sellers = depends how many say £50 worth (start smaller up to you)
    Call it £100 all in.

Use any old pc with dvd writer, load films onto harddrive, copy as needed or get your kids to do some stock.

Start bid at 99p with postage covering your outlay and more, look what others charge and do similar.

    10p - dvd
    10p - envelope
    2.5p - sleeve
    50p - postage stamp

Once your up and running you can get a cheap printer that prints to discs with cheap copy ink to customise your discs. (eps*n or cann*n)
get a 1-1 or 1-3 or 1-5 copier (saves time)

add to your library as you go
split sales over different accounts as you progress
build up feedback (for future use or sell the accounts when done)

    This method paid for :

    2 x 2week holidays abroard (2ppl all in)
    3 x festival tickets (2 ppl all in ... 6 tickets 3 festivals)
2 x platinum grand prix tickets (2 ppl all in for 5 days)
and other stuff which i wont mention

    well the op asked ....

This deserves a pint or a thanks

Ebay's rise in fees has stopped a lot of people including me, Amazon is better in respect that you dont pay to list only when it sells.

Seems like a creative idea, but is it legal?

    oh yess.
The other sellers have done the work for you already, they've either dug it up from public domain or ripped the titles or wotever,
You buy wots already being sold then sell it better

I have about 100,000 dollars in sales on ebay last year. I get all my stuff from one of my friends in china. So far it's working pretty good for me. But it does take a lot of my time. I want to start doing something that is more easier and can be setup to run automatically. Well i guess time will tell.

Our second income at the moment is Ebay , with my wife at home doing the hard yards . Some days we only make $100 and some as much as $400 . It does have to be treated as a business though and is hard work .

We did about $50,000 in sales in 2008..about $17,500 profit after all said and done. It does take some time, but I do enjoy the customer list I build.

Was my primary source of income for a few years, pulling in huge amounts. Got 3 negative feedbacks on my account, and egay suspended me forever. 98.9% positive feedback overall, powerseller, paid them at least 40k a year in fees, they don't care.

My suggestion - fuck egay. I created a second account just to sell off the rest of my inventory and then I am done with them forever.

IM is the way to go, much less stress and hassle.

In my honest opinion, it is not worth it man.

Their fees are insane. They mainly only let their customers pay by Paypal which is a hassle in itself.

If you are not a powerseller, your item gets pushed to the veryyy back and gets sold with one bid.

    Not worth it. At all.

Well some of this stuff here is true however alot is not .I would suggest you either do ebay on a small scale so you learn or speak with someone who is currently selling on there .Alot of what people are telling you is very outdated information .

I have made a living with ebay for the last 3 years.
Granted, in 2006 it was a much better market for me, I was making about $5-6k a month. In 2008 the market I was in took a huge hit, and I went from making 30% to making hardly 10%. This year has been the worst, with profits hardly enough to make a living, and ebays fees on the rise. I believe I pay around 6% on the items I sell with paypal fees and I'm making max 10% on each item with sales slowly trickling in. I'm looking for new products to sell with a higher profit margin now, or I need to find an investor who will throw down so I can list more/sell more with this low profit margin. The products I sell cost around $115/unit, so it's not cheap. If you have a hot profitable product go for it, if not, don't waste your time.

I made some good money on ebay, the economy killed me, and the ebay changes stuck it in me and broke it off.

the feedback (seller not allowed to leave neg feedback) just ruined it. The people are about as bad as DP

unless you can make some good profit per item, its not worth it.

A buddy of mine used this same idea on eBay nearly ten years ago. To put it in perspective, it was before it was really feasible to copy DVDs, and a lot of people didn't have DVD players, so we used VCR tapes :).

A lot of people still earn a decent living with eBay.

But more and more people are actually turning to creating their own websites and slowly directing their eBay customers to there

They usually offer good deals to these customers as they no longer have to pay stupid eBay fees.

All you need to do is get into a decent niche market (just like in affiliate websites)
