web and graphic designers!! what tools do you use???

I think I jump in.

The most important tool for me, as a so-called web designer, is the code editor. There're plenty of options out there, but my personal choice would be Panic's Coda, but recently I've been playing with Sublime Text and found to be a superior code editor of it kind. I'm jumping from Mac to PC from time to time, so having Sublime Text running on both system has been really helpful for me, but I just could not abandon Coda because of some of its own great piece of software with a lot of functionality.

Also, I have a whole set of Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium but I don't use all the software. I usually use photoshop for most of my graphic/image editing, illustrator for logo design. I also use an image editing software called pixelmator in my Mac and I think it's great. Check it out at pixelmator.com.

If your brother is serious about expanding his skills to the web, give him a subscription to tutsplus.com . This site helps me a lot in honing my design skills.

Well, it depends what he actually wants to work more... for example im focused on Vector designs in Adobe Illustrator, but I work in Adobe Photoshop too... for coding learning he doesn't need any special program to learn, he just needs the W3Schools website link and learn all the coding, IF the coding is what he likes.

Yeah, Photoshop definitely comes as frontliner.

Photoshop CS5 & Illustrator are in my fav list & a must have for graphic designers.

Adobe AE, Photoshop, Inkscape. I am not a pro designer but this does all my basic needs.

- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Dreamweaver
- Flash Editor
- Notepad++

And for video editing add : Adobe after effects and sony vegas :)

CS5 suite is invaluable. Illustrator and Photoshop are all you really need. Also a tablet to draw on is essential.

I have been developing and designing websites for 5 years.

I only use AdobePhotoshop it should be latest and Notepad++ for coding.

I agree with you. Latest Photoshop, Notepad++ . Wordpress. Magento. JQuery. Cart66. Pinnacle Cart. Anything Adobe. PHP and MySQL

For the rest..... folks I am very glad to be part of this forum. You guys rock!!!! so many tips.... this is truly amazing. thanks a lot and peace to all!!

Photoshop for Landing pages and photo editing.
Ilustrator for Logo making and ilustrations
After Effects for Video editing
And that would be all, I think.

I use artister for quick web design
photoshop and adobe illustrator for logos, images etc
BD and SB for SEO
wordpress lol

If it's for the web, my partner swears by Fireworks. Using photoshop however you'll be able to work with and manipulate the most amount of premade templates that are out there.I would avoid gimp at all costs cause you can't really share your work with other artists too well (because most of them are using photoshop).Anything above/including CS4 is best.

yeah get the entire abode suite and he's all set. :D Photoshop and dreamweaver are a great start. :) I suggest him to start learning those two first for now. don't give him too much. hahah

I sure about this that various people will choose various opinion. I like to design in the adobe suit.

Looking to begin developing websites, this is a great start. Thanks guys!
