I will never be convinced that Matt Cutts doesn't know the motives behind google's actions. Come on. He's the head of spam. He's privy to what goes on and the reasons why google does what they do. What makes him scum in my book is that he is knowingly participating in corporate greed.

One step beyond that.. Google will give priority to those that are paying for their Adword campaigns. They just won't disclose it to anyone. Its like giving an award to the biggest sponsor.. Politics..

I agree. If google cared about the experience of their users, they would do something about Amazon. But why should they when Amazon gave google over 5 million dollars a month in ad money? Please. They want to get rid of us because we get in the way of the giants. In real life, there is no recourse when a chain store comes to town and another small business goes under. Chain stores are happy that they have no competition in that town and everything is just heavenly for them. In the internet world, there is a recourse. It's called US. Neither corporations nor google want US around. What would most people do if they were getting complaints like this from their biggest customers? "I give you five million dollars a month. Those pesky people are using bad things to get ahead of me. Make them stop or I'm taking my money elsewhere." Google's updates have to do with money. Corporate greed isn't called corporate greed for nothing.

You know, guys, I really try to be a positive person and not let shit get me down, because if I start to pay attention to all the injustice and terrible things in the world, I would just think "what's the point" not only of living my own life, but what's the point of having kids to bring them into a world dominated by giant monsters like google, ebay, walmart etc., or legal things like police corruption, the countless false imprisonments, killings, mistreatment and torture of animals, and the list goes on. I don't mean to be negative but these kinds of things make me sick. Even if I CAN manipulate the SERPs with my Xrumer it's a) not on a scale which I could get insane income to REALLY F G in the A; and b) even if I made millions, I would still see the masses with their incomes cut by 50, 70, 90 or even 100% and that square jawed fat cunt boasting about the size of his e-weener because he is deep down very insecure and really gets off on having so much power over people. Many people who harm/abuse others in a variety of ways whether simply physical, sexual, emotional abuse, do it for the 'kick' they get from the supreme control they feel, because in real life they feel the exact opposite. redrubies, I like your example of the disabled woman doing her quilting, because this is a perfect example of the little guys that Google does not give a flying FUCK about, and actually WANTS to ruin and wipe out. A desperately poor old woman might want to buy a gift for her grandson or get some extra money for heating during the cold winter, by selling her handmade products, but in Google's eyes she is a little speck that has no rights whatsoever. You have the money ie 1 mil+ per month, you have rights. You have no money, you are generalized as a disgraceful immoral spammer and are ruthlessly removed under that guise. Do you really think old ladies know how to mod Xrumer in their spare time?

I am currently ranking a batch of around 10 sites for old time's sake at the moment. After that, I am moving away from Google entirely, I am not doing anymore SEO and I am not using adwords. I will seek alternative traffic methods. Even if I still make money from SEO, I don't believe it is right for me personally. Seeing this happen to so many people and this fat bastard boasting about it actually hits my moral conscience.

I hope to fucking all that is good, that Google eventually gets fined to the tune of tens of billions. If that weren't far fetched enough, I hope to all that is good that this fine were redistributed to funding to lift the poorest people in the world out of desperate poverty. If G's bullshit "don't be evil" were being adhered to in any way shape or form, they would already be doing this voluntarily. But instead they are ruining regular people and redistributing the funds to their highest paying mega-corporations.

How the fuck to stay positive in a world like this?

There is no doubt in my mind that Google's SPAM team truly believe themselves to be actively providing better SERPs. That they believe this, however, is no argument that they actually are; what it is an argument for is that they're tools.

Excellent points. The whole point of the spam team is to keep all of us on our toes. If you were hit by panda or penguin, you probably weren't ahead of the curve and were following the same tactics that worked in the past. There will be no "death of SEO" it just constantly evolving.

Yes we have seen some really really shitty SERPS lately. But that comes with the changes of them trying to filter out all the "spam." Diversify your links, optimize your onsite and follow the things that everyone is saying to do that has worked for them if you were hit. Don't keep blasting Xrumer thinking that is going to get you out!

Exactly! Everything you said is exactly the way I feel too. As for adwords, google will not get any money from me either. My money goes to bing ads. What I do though is use the adwords coupons and stop the campaign when it gets to the end. It's my way of giving them the same eff you that they give to everyone else.

Self defeating... If I was a big ad exec at one of these firms and saw I was appearing in the generic above the fold then I would be scaling back on adwords spend!!!

I see what you mean though the top two of three in my niche are 3 and 4 (usually on adwords) and 2 and 3 in the generic for the same keywords. Sooner or later these people will work out they are spending money on advertising they don't need to.

Right on the money... I went away from the BH community after Penguin bc my shit was destroyed and I can say first hand the WH guys are all propaganda tools. They don't know jack shit about SEO, just spread crap to the masses.

Jarring and jolting? Sounds like the point of this is to deter IMers from BH more than it actually goes after BH.

Panda and Penguin have done jack shit... type in any competitive keyword and check out the backlinks. Sites with invisible footer links are still ranking all over the place.

Panda/Penquin is a means to scare IMers away from black hat. That's a lot easier than an automatic algo that doesn't unfairly punish good sites.
