Zen19 - 40million in 10,000 Hours

This could be one of the best threads on BHW.

Awesome stuff Zen and your journey is inspiriational.

Best of luck mate.

so basically find out what works (which you have done) automate it as much as you can then, upscale.

how are you monetizing? CPA? Clickbank?

I would like it is a CB, because i just get into that niche few months back and would be nice to hear some other stories.

Awesome finally someone starting a journal on a large scale plan instead of those measly $100 a day threads (I mean we all start somewhere but it's great to see a REAL business venture)

Best of luck to your venture. Hopefully, the rest of us can pick us some advice from your journal.

Also, would love to see you drop ideas and tips related to PPC, PPV, media buying liberally in your updates :)

I love automation! I always stress how much of an advantage it is to be able to code and design your own projects.

I'm looking forward to some some ingenious twists.

Lunch time of day one, three and a half hours in. Calling this day one is a bit of a misnomer, as I've been planning this new method/system for the past month, and have been building it for the past three weeks. I'm approaching the end of the prototyping cycle and it will be ready for traffic in the next 10 days or so.

This morning I was adding a central control system for the range of offers and their graphics which will be used across the network of web properties. On any big scale development its always much easier to have a central database (and image host) sitting on a separate dedicated server. In this way with one click you can update all of your properties, and make backups and updates a really easy process. You can also use templates for your sites, and have the central server ftp and auto generate new sites - which is pimp. This will save me an estimated 2 hours a day.

Another thing I have been working on today is the subid tracking system. I expect that I'll be running in excess of 1000 offers across a lot of countries. I do not plan on using only one network for this, so managing clicks, epcs, converts and various other data would be hella time consuming. A simple subid database hooked into the master system, tracks all clicks and associates them with users. This system also uses post backs to track conversions, which means I can have all my stats and data on my own back office. This alone will save me about 3 hours a day in work time.

I'm not adding this functionality just because I can. The goal on bigger systems is to store any and all data, and to mine it both automatically and by hand. I want to know if an offer is bad in minutes rather than days, and I want auto flagging where epc's fall below the norm.

This is all pretty generic boring code, when im finished with the prototype I can discuss more of the concepts behind traffic upgrading, and what I'm using this bigass database for. I should be making daily updates, and in some cases twice a day updates to this thread.

I somehow, suddenly, got this insane urge to keep track of this thread every day. I have a feeling good things will come from this, not only for me, but for anyone actually taking their time and effort to keep eyes on this.

On a side note, I like the way you write, I can actually read the motivation you have on getting this done. I wish you good luck and - using your words - try to get a bird's eye view on your project and fill the gaps! ;-)

Keep posting!!

Now here's something we don't see everyday. I'll be following this thread as I can see myself gaining much more knowledge. I've never tried out money making methods like yours, I'm more of a SEO guy; so it'll be worth the read.

Oh and yeah, I like the way you write. Somehow, it interests me to continue to read everything you write. Last but not least, good luck! You'll definitely achieve your planned goals and succeed.

Whew... talk about planning and working out.
I was being lazy here even though I know what to do.
This has motivated me to allot specific time each day to do what need
to do for IM Goals.

The way you are putting details about how you are doing is
really interesting. Will be applying some of the methods and techniques
you mentioned here to make my own working easier.

Looking forward to your updates.
Best of Luck!

6 hours done, and I'm finished development for today. Typically I prepare a full list of my tasks a day in advance. This way everything is fresh in my head and I will know more or less what to expect to complete in a day. It also lets me review the next day before I go to bed, which means when I wake I know exactly what my day will involve. I don't like to leave any tasks incomplete during the day, and when this does sometimes happen, they are the first tasks that must be done before I move on through the next day's list. If I finish my development work early, I take a bit of time to update my wall of plans.

I like to have the bigger picture mapped out and stuck on the wall. It feels good crossing stuff off, and also lets me keep a bank of new ideas where I can see them. This is what my wall of doom/plans looks like. Should make a stop gap of this wall, so you can see stuff turn green :)

TAL5U

Im going to post up some more about the areas I worked on today in a short while.

9994 Hours Left :)

So today I mentioned subids briefly as I worked on them this morning. This afternoon I added a tracking system that will run across all sites. I have identified 12 key points within the traffic/visit/data collection/conversion which will give me exceptional insight into areas where my sites can be optimized. This is again handled by the central system with host sites providing dumps of visitor activity for the main server to pull and interpret.

Why go to so much effort?

Its one of the KEY differences between newbie's and pro's. When I stated out, I'd come up with a method twist, build all the resources, and then start on the traffic. I'd be super excited, and then when it converted at 500:1 I'd get pissed off and assume it's a shitty method. Lots of people give up after a few of these fails. I'm too stubborn for that.

Over time it became clear that MANY things can screw up a campaign/method. So I started to build in functions to record clicks, mail opens, conversion rates. If it could be recorded, I recorded it. It became obvious quickly that failings happen with mails, invalid links, down offers, bad hosting, miss spellings, and about 100 other stupid little details. Data logging eliminates these problems when they occur, and yes I still make newbie screwups, but they are caught before I lose money 90% of the time.
You shouldn't think that Google Analytics is enough, most people don't even use this correctly. I recommend learning some basic PHP and logging things to a MySQL database, this is the most simple method which will allow you to track things that YOU care about. If you can't be bothered to learn some basic computer languages, it makes IM very much more difficult.

Tomorrow I'm working on the absolute most boring part of any development, compliance. I'll be adding the various frameworks for privacy policies, t&cs, unsubscribe, and consumer data removal requests. It's boring, but if you want stable and no hassle from the authoritah!, its best to just follow their rules, and add more scale to overcome the hassle.

Great journey and love the way you have everything planned out an on the wall. Awesome triple monitor set-up, think that I am going to be upgrading to that soon.

I would like it is a CB, because i just get into that niche few months back and would be nice to hear some other stories.

Not CB, although i'm sure one of my partners will raise this as a way to plug in further earnings.

Great, thanks you for some motivation burst, i am a total newb and this motivated me, only three years, and that kind of goals starts.. Youre one of a million, and you know that, i hope you will make it, best wishes !! :)

Your id tracking sounds kind of like prosper202. Would be interesting to see which data you are tracking. Do you use google analytics as well or only your own solution?

This is definitely one of the more motivational posts. I love tracking data, and it's helpful to know what I should be looking for.

Subids are what run the affiliate space, normally lower level affiliates never use these tracking tools, its more the networks, advertisers, and the bigger PPC people. p202 is a great tool, which I have used a lot in my time in IM. I prefer now to store and handle my own clicks, as this gives me more control.

I dont use GA either, as im paranoid of Google (many people say im nuts for this).

I'll release some of the metrics i'm capturing when I set the system live, along with the %'s that i'm looking to achieve on these.

This is a great topic. So inspirational! I wish you the best and hope you'll get to your goal!

Definitely looks like I'll have to teach myself a bit more about PHP and databases then.
