Little scared to "pull the trigger" on my first MNS, need an experienced push

Hi all

So, I've built a few WordPress sites in the last two years, the best of which makes about $200 a month with AdSense. I've had a CJ account for a long time, and have never really used it for much, but today I found something (4 bucks per sale) that peeked my interest.

So, I am thinking of putting together my first MNS site based on this product.

My research so far has got me:

A keyword (2 words) that according to AdWords keyword tool (exact match) gets 8100 searches, both local and global (so I'm guessing it's all in the US?). Competition is low, CPC is ten cents (which I don't think I need to worry about, I don't plan to do CPC, just the CJ product).

A search for the keyword in Google Insights shows interest in the 40-80% range over the last year.

The first page that shows up in an actual search for the keyword is a PR1 site, basically using some type of affiliate system, selling something similar. The keyword is not in that sites URL.

I can't get an EMD for the keyword, but I can get KEYWORDonline

The item I looking to push is something that people would only be looking for if they were at least somewhat interested in buying it (I know if I was searching for it, it'd be to buy it).

I plan on making it a simple review type of setup, promoting the product, etc...

Am I on the right path and/or am I missing something? I want my first run at this to be at least a little successful (hell, if it sells 1 the commission pays for a year of domain and hosting).

Do look at where EMD sits in the ranking.
If this is your first time trying, I strongly suggest you to get an EMD.
As you get more experienced, use non-EMD.

There are many many opportunity, try finding another keyword with EMD.
It will make it easier for you. Seeing result will be lot faster.

the EMD is #9 on the google search results, also a PR1, more refined looking.

edit: it also ranks 12,000,000 in alexa and shows 6 sites linking in

OK, so a little update.

Bought the domain, set up hosting, grand total of a whopping $7.50

Set up WP, got a theme I liked, tweaked it a little, added 5 pages (about, privacy, 3 product "reviews"). I used all original content that I wrote, each page being between 300-500 words. Keywords and associated keywords sprinkled about here and there, all 3 pages have links to each other (i.e. ...During our review of product X and product y...).

Set up all the normal plugins I use (social buttons, hit counter, stats, Platinum SEO).

Answered 1 question on Yahoo Answers with a point back to my url.

Set up Google webmaster tools, submitted the sitemap, set up analytics).

I've had a few visits from google and yahoo's bots, 1 real visitor so far.

Looking into link building, but don't want to rush it too much.

Interesting note so far - if I do an exact search in google for my keyword (i.e. "keyword") the site comes up as the second listing. A normal search of the keyword shows nothing in the first 15 pages. Is that normal?

Heh...def. not afraid to screw up, I'd know NOTHING if I hadn't been down that road before Took me months to be able to figure out how to NOT break WP every time I changed something.

I more curious about the listing in googles results. I've got some sites that are 2 years old that don't show up for an exact ("keyword") search on the first page. Just wondering if this indicates anything either good or bad?

That's a little complicating. Just do natural, regular link building. Also make lots of unique content and get some Facebook and Twitter action going. Then do the 150 other things Google looks for.

Just because your site is 2 years old doesn't really mean it's going to rank. I've got a site that was started in 1997 and it's not quite at the top of every keyword.

i noticed you said you couldn't get an emd. Keywordonline would work, Keywordhq would work, or keywordguide, etc. whatever. EMD's aren' that important as long as you have the keyword in it. Good luck!

Isn't that because you have clicked your site a few times when searching for it on Google? I get the same thing, but when I do a history sweep it doesn't show up that high

Sure, it affects it but there's a ton of factors. Anyone can buy a aged domain. Social and content are nothing to underestimate.

And you're scared to lose what? Ranking on Google only merely got smarter. You're content must be piss poor in order for you to be scared about losing positions or rankings. There is a method shared on here for a MNS site. Create a e-Book of the top 50 questions answered for that niche. Get a ghost writer or someone to write it for you. Sell it for $1-$5. You can advertise via Google Adwords. After a few months judge if you want to sell the domain and flip it. Profit.

I got over being scared when I started pumping out huge quality content. Ask yourself this: "Is my content worth me spending money on?" The question can not come from "Do I have money" but the question must come from "Is my content worth anything"? Most cases people associated BlackHat with poor people which is dumb. Blackhat is simply being smarter and ignoring rules in order for you to get ahead. IT DOES NOT MEAN POOR QUALITY CONTENT OR PEOPLE. On here too many think "Oh BlackHat means free". It simply means being smarter without rules, not free either. Know the difference, and be a real BlackHat.
