Hosting Multiple WordPress blogs on one host.

I want to start investing in domains.

For each domain I buy I would like to upload and configure a WP blog/website.

Can anyone recommend the best place to do this?

I mean if I have 100 domains all pointing to the one host, with all the WP blogs sitting on it.

Ideally Id like to do this as cheap as I can

You can use a wordpress multisite with the domain mapping plugin, much easier. One installation, one database, unlimited domains, subdomains.

Just google wordpress multisite.

And google wordpress domain mapping.

You can go with Host The Name's unlimited domain hosting plan. Host as many domains as you want

I've thought about doing this but what happens if you have 100's of sites running on multisite and you want to flip one or more of them (but not all of them)?
Can you (easily) pull all the articles, etc for one domain out of a multisite install?

You can export all the contents and settings and import them to a new installation right from the wordpress dashboard under "Tools". Basically a few clicks is all you need.

will look into it bait more - saves have 20 wp installs with the same host!

I do separate installations for every single site I have on one shared server at hostgator with no issue.

Personally if I was you I would go with a hosting company like HostGator and just purchase a package
where I had unlimited addon domains available. This would allow you more control over it and a better
experience in my opinion.

Multisite : single setup, single login, one updates all (WP, themes, plugins....)
Separate installations : slightly easier to transfer the site, but nightmare to keep all updated if you have many....

You can host as many blogs as you want one host or ip. The only trouble you run into, is if you cross-link and memory.

If you cross-link your blogs on the same ip, will get banned quickly.

Wordpress is also a resource hog, and uses a lot of memory. If you are only running a few blogs, you won't notice. I have dozens on a vps and I have to have more 1gb of memory, or it loads slow.

Another thing I would like to point out, not a good idea to have ALL your blogs on the same host, if it goes down, they all go down. It is better to break them up and put them on different providers.

Same as mentioned, just export and import.

To play safe. Don't delete your site first after exporting.

Create your main multisite first at yourdomain.com. Then create your sub blog whatever.yourdomain.com, import everything over, check everything is in place then map your old domain over to whatever.yourdomain.com.

If you're using one adsense and/or google analytics account and/or whois info it makes no sense to host each site with a different webhost.

I cross link all my related niche sites all using the same adsense id and all sitting in the same webhost for years and non has been banned.

Regarding wp being a resource hog, there are 100's of sites like edublogs which are running 50,000-100,000+ blogs running on wordpress since wpmu.

But to each his own. I like to update all my sites once instead of updating each site one at a time.
