301 Penguin Recovery Success

This 301 redirect trick worked for me for almost 3 weeks, then the penalty passed on to the new domain.
At that point I decided to do some testing so I killed the 301 and added a 'nofollow, noindex' with Yoast for the entire penalized site and the site went from 1000+ back to #3 on Page 1 across the board. Craziest thing I've ever seen with SEO. Still holding rank today, but I cannot draw any conclusions yet because it too early.

You have old, penalized site which you had redirected to new domain. Did you noindex,nofollow old domain or new domain? And which one jumped?
He had a penalized site he redirected to a new site. It worked for a few weeks and then tanked the new site. Once he saw it tank, he quickly removed the 301 redirect and added 'nofollow,noindex' back to the penalized site. After that, he noticed his new site rebound back up.

I have authority site with 120++ pages and before the penguino update, the density of my every post between 1%-5%. It is horrible things to update and make changes with all that pages but some of my pages with 5% still ranking no1 and some of pages with 1-2% got screw. The question is, IMO the main targeted keyword not the one which got hit, but the entire article post...
e.g main keyword : dog training course maybe 1-2% density, but the related keyword like: dog training, etc maybe 4-5%. So it still hard to measure the density correctly or maybe we have to do nothing with keyword density for each post..

301's seem to be a toss up in my experience. And for some reason they tend to work best when you 301 to an aged domain. Makes no sense to me but I'm just telling you what I've observed after having done close to 80 of these this year due to the original site getting penalized.

The old, penalized site is the one that jumped back up to #3 & Page 1. It is also the site that I added the 'nofollow, noindex' flag to. I cannot make sense of it. It goes against everything for on-page SEO. My gut says the penalty rolled to the new domain (even after removing the 301 as it probably takes similar timeframe to remove it). I went ahead and removed the 'noindex,nofollow' settings to continue the test.

Haha, that's what I was thinking. Saw that someone else got same results with noindex,nofollow also. Pretty crazy days. What did you do with your new domain? Since if I understand right, now you have 2 domains in index with same content?

The point to consider is op's site was hit by penguin,a filter not an algorithm.Penalties pass on,it might take ,days or weeks it passes on.
If you 301 from an aged domain which has no penalties the results will stick.Bear in mind if you hammer links to the 301'd domain this in itself can cause a penalty therefore make it appear the 301 was the issue.
Aged domains can take more punishment but unless it is an authority site (in which case you wouldn't be 301ing) there will be a threshold.A high pr scrapebox blast,a few satellite sites,handful of nice web 2.0's will get your new anchortext firmly associated with the site you will be 301ing,indeed the site may even start ranking itself.
So if you're site was hit by penguin your new site has to pass that filter,if it does and the 301'd domain is good there will be no issues.If your site got a panda penalty or worse it's temp.Major brands 301 on a major scale,it's common practice.
In the worst case you can keep using the same domains to 301 from and simply set up new sites as when required,if you're making decent money this would not be an issue.

yeah same here it drops after a week or 2. 301 is useless on penalties.

Actually no....if you do a redirect and build links to your site via the redirect and you get a penalty, removing the redirect will not do anything as the redirect link already passed on the penalty in the first place.
Of course Google is weird as i did things ther other way around to your thoery. i did a redirect. built all links to the redirect site then the main site got hit with a - 50 penalty. I removed the redirect and built a new site on the redirect url itself (new content) and now the 301 redirect url is ranking in its place. The main site is still nowhere 4 months later and still penalized!!

One of my main sites is impressions down 53% and click throughs down 87%. All my main keywords are ranking in the hundreds. On a bizarre note, my #1 keyword is "hot asian massage" at #10! Some unrelated soft porn thing that came through on the autoblog is my #1 keyword
This site is part of a "brand name" I do my own products, so I guess I'll have to slowly but surely build up a reputation with articles, and social likes, and getting links on reputable blogs, etc. I guess this is an opportunity to do things right, but damn, my products rank well on Amazon, get good reviews for my exact keywords, and those are like #500, and "hot asian massage" for a spun autoblog article is #10.
