Over Optimization Penalty Launched Today

lol obviously that wont work, i dont think google crawls itself..but maybe some other big site like microsoft would be a better target

I think it would be better to target a big company like Progressive that Google seems to favor.

looking at the link profile difference from all my sites, the one that used to rank very well but tanked, had a lot of blogroll links from similar sites in the same niche

that + statements from matt cunts leads me to believe that the blogroll links are to blame

The question is, this update is related with BACKLINKS or CONTENT?
All my sites with
- unique content,
- lots of black hat SEO
...all have been deranked !

I have 2 sites with:
- duplicate content
- few backlinks
... they are still ranking well.

My first conclusions:
- This G update doesn't focus on original/duplicate/spun content of our websites (Panda did!)
- All the website that used black hat SEO with blog comments, forum profiles, contextual back links inside spuned articles (web 2.0 & article directories), have been all penalized !
- Domains with few BL are not penalized

I think all this update is about the quality and quantity of BL.

Have someone with a website < 2 yo with >1000 BL not been hitted ?

i have a site that is > 2yrs old , and less than 1000 backlinks
and it got hit
a lot of it's links were blogroll links from sites that are greater than 2 yrs old, with backlinks from manual, on topic comments and article submits and dir sub, as well as bookmarks and web 2.0s

additionally, this site had no backlinking done to it in the last year, and neither did it's tier1 or 2 sites, and ranking only dropped yesterday

Feb 2012 - #2 on nearly all big kw's in my niche
March 13 2012 - Nosedive to #50-150 due to "unnatural links" penalty
April 25 2012 - Oh, you're trying to climb back up? haha, -300 on all keywords today!

What they basically did is take the blog network crackdown from manual takedowns to algorithmic takedowns.

So, fuck SEO for a while.

Not one of my sites, over 20, has been affected. Phew! Neither has my competition. Their sites are stuck like glue with the worst content iv ever seen. I wonder why they still rank 1, 2, and 3. If this update was supposed to do something i wonder why my competition is still where they are.

Non-consistant BL (100 BL in one month and zero the next month) may be a factor of penalties with this new update. To be confirmed...

One of my site is less than 2 yo and have about 5k backlinks according to majestic SEO, it's safe from this update. I think it's because the the site has a lot facebook share and retweet.

I knew something was up lastnight when I was watching the football. Traffic and Adsense were down but I didn't think much of it until this morning when I found this thread.

The answer isn't to build an authority site with great content. Why would you spend all your time and money on that when it can get wiped out with a random Google update?? The more sites you have in different niches with different monetization methods the better.

I have a few sites still ranking but I'm just gonna leave them for a day or two as I don't know if backlinking will do more harm than good at the moment.

Anyone up for spamming Matt Cunts blog in the meantime? Just agree on one kw and start blasting.

None of my 20 sites have retweets or facebook shares and iv never been affected by this update nor Panda. Interesting!

I think the changes is not yet done, rankings still fluctuating.

The best way to test if porn keywords and porn links affects a web sites position for sure would be to slam his website with a couple hundred thousand links in this niche. I wonder if after the fact he could remove them?

kw = porn?

Its 'whitelisted' but fuck it - xrummer owners give it a blast with p$rn links and the like! we need comments like this at the moment - there is so much shite flying around we all need to keep our heads up whilst others are losing theirs!!

My only not affected site is the one with backlinks just from web 2.0 (unique articles). Others are >50

I've gone from number one to number 14 for my main KW. A shitty YouTube video from someone trying to sell a crappy book is number one. NOTHING on the first page would meet what a person typing in that KW wants to know. Even all ten results combined wouldn't. There are 2 YouTube videos, 7 ecommerce sites and a blog with basically zero content. Until recently, my site was the only one that covered the subject extensively. The other decent site that was number 2 has disappeared completely.

While I care about the income I will be losing I am actually quite glad overall, because I hope this will lead to the masses using other search engines. If I were Google I'd get rid of that effing idiot Matt C tout suite, like right now. He is wrecking their search engine and business because he is so fixated on his ridiculous ideas about black hat SEO. There is no other kind, and to rank a site on Google you must do it, even if only to a degree.

I am not so struck on Yahoo or Bing. Just checked blekko.com and I am number 2 there, with the competitor being number 1 - or in other words, the two best sites for the keyword are at numbers 1 and 2.

Think we have to show Google what we think of their shit by not using them and spreading the word at every opportunity online and off that there are far better options for search out there.
