Sites Gone? Google Update? WTF

I don't think links are obsolete, when links are ranking before domains, that tells me g's onsite seo update is taking place, remember they were talking about about overoptimising seo. Is everyone using a wordpress site? Bingo! Could it be a wordpress plugin.

I have sites that are WordPress and Joomla that are gone. I even have a EMD that ranked number one for the last 6 months and it has NO links at all, not even one... It's gone too

For the people who sites are coming back did you post fresh content or blast more links? 2 of mys site still gone.

I went on a rampage of adding fresh content to my site 30-50 new blog posts per day, 100% original content. Also, I added a ton of links, only using naked urls and other anchors, but did not include my main keyword in any of the anchors.

My site has not fully recovered, but its moving in the right direction for now and I received my penalty on Feb 17th.

I dont know why they are doing this. It seems like every time they do these updates I cant find what I am looking for when I try to search for something. I see crappy sites at the top. They are killing their own search engine in the quest to stop BH. Why fix it if it aint broke? I remember when you use to search for something and it would always pull up good results. Now it seems impossible to search what you are looking for.

Haha. My brothers local landscaping site has never been linked to except for people in his network, and he got hit with a -50 penalty. He doesn't even show up when you search his company name.

This shit is just getting ridiculous. Google is now starting to screw the people that made them who they are today.

Google.....ruining peoples livelihood one day at a time.

Isn;'t a penalty different then an algo change? A penalty is they found your site and you got fucked you. An algo change is they made a change in the way search engine ranks and people globally get fucked.

Either way I am back to building links and adding fresh content today

I wonder if it's any coincidence that gmail has been down for many people for almost the past hour?

The bigger they are, they harder they fall.

Thought i'll jump into the discussion.

So here's the background of one of my sites.

- EMD domain.
- Been #1 for several keywords for 2-3 months now.
- Unique fresh content
- 40+ different anchors for incoming links.
- Links build on 20+ different platforms (including blog networks, however BMR and ALN wasn't part of it)
- Site had links to authority sites as well as internal linking.
- Images with ALT text.

I would categorize it as nearly perfect optimized (never overdo)

Still trying to find the reason, been analyzing different pattern, but this one is tough to crack.

I'm narrowing down to some smaller subjects, but hell it might be ALL wrong. I

Is anyone using seohost.com for hosting?
Did you domain include any trademark name?
Did the domain contain any words that would include a price? Like free, giveaway, prices etc?

3 sites I've seen slapped included the word "free".

I just lost my fucking mortgage payments and all the rest of the bills I pay for my household to take care of my wife and 2 kids. I had an authority site that had 100s of rankings, many were number one. Guess what? They are all gone. Gone. Gone./ Gone. I feel like blowing my fucking head off. Fuck YOU Google you fucking fuck.

Dude, firstly? I'm sorry to hear about your loss in ranking (as well as everyone else.) I know what it's like to put in tons of work, only to have it ripped from my hands. But just a quick reminder, because you among others in thread who are coming down on Google for this latest update. If you have a family you have to support for and/or are living paycheck to paycheck using blackhat SE tactics, maybe it's about time you began looking into having a more stable and reliable income, and just have this as something on the side. Sure, it's a nice thought to be able to just do this full time, and not have to work in an office or something crappy... but look at the situation you've now put yourself in.

SEO is forever changing, and updates like this are constantly rolled out. they have been in the past, and will be in the future. The only real thing you can do is either adapt, or look for another line of work.

And before I get tons of hate, and whatnot... don't take this as an insult in any way either, I'm just giving my advice.

If any of your sites are not gone... See what you did with them, what type of backlinks you made to them... Because you know these sites does not have any thing against Go*gle policies

2 cents

The trouble is, you guys didn't pay attention to the changes back in late February. What's been happening? A lot of "authority" sites with link budgets in the $10k/mth range in several of my niches thought "oh we're safe" as did a lot of people on this forum.

You didn't pay attention to what was happening and why, nor did you research how all of these terrible sites started ranking up.
I know exactly what is working again, after much analysis, and it's stupid indeed what google has done for overall search quality. However, my sites are steadily recovering, I opened up 50 domains to target various keywords individually and they're all ranking.

Start analyzing and stop complaining. The biggest niches in finance/health etc are all running slash and burn campaigns on domains and ranking them for 2-3 months to drive leads... there's a reason for this... there are no authority sites left, so modify your techniques accordingly.
If you think there's some SEO technique you just need to unlock to create a site that stably is #1 on a $100k/mth term, you're wrong. There's nothing that works in this capacity anymore... modify and move on... target different markets and different engines.

Back in Feb the changes google made actually made me realize that several huge terms I go after have 80% of their google traffic, but in bing/yahoo. My site was already ranking #17 over there, so I pushed it the rest of the way to the top 5...

Keep going, look at what works, and exploit the system to drive revenue...

This, This, This.

Couldn't have said this any better, great post. People seem to have gotten either incredibly lazy, or are using outdated SE methods from '04.

I concur keep on link building, I have a number of sites hit 6 weeks ago that are, very slowly and gradually hauling themselves back out of their -50 penalties. I am using mixed up anchor text (5 keywords), NHSEO plus UD (bookmarks). Also have just started testing Link Aloha and their blog network as good blog networks are still able to rock the SERPs (at least while indexed), hence G's current interest in them. I also get one way links from relevant sites to help with diversity / camouflage by either paying for them, exchanging or by building the sites myself.

Do you guys check your rankings in Bing and Yahoo? My site wasn't ranking there before the fall, but now I have a similar positions there as before in G

I did I am ranking really well on Bing and Yahoo but no where on Google now.

Lucky for me my main site has went up to second spot for a 210k exact searches per month keyword, and the adsense earnings has nearly doubled.

Hope it stays this way! :D
