Domain Selling Help?

Hey Everyone

So i posted yesterday about domains and if there was a good business in domain names...
Now I want to know a bit more, because it has tickled my fancy ( as my teacher used to say )
I am interested in buying domain names:
Single words eg- apple, puma, google

and longer words eg askmen, cookingshow etc...

What I want to know, is once i have bought a domain, say with GoDaddy...
How would I sell it?
Where are sites that I can sell, and is there anything that I need to know...

Say I have found a really good domain that no one has got - what sort of prices can i set it at?

Chance that you would find a really good domain name that is free and someone would be interested to buy is very low. I'm quite sure that you would just loose your money with domain business.

I would suggest to consider site flipping instead of domain flipping as that's much easier to start and doesn't require that much experience.
 
hmmm... alright..
but for selling - do you have to pay to list or something?
 
domain flipping is like share trading, website flipping is like real estate development. While only planning and marketing is involved in domain flipping. whereas you need to put in a lot of efforts for site flipping. if have deep pockets then get in to domain trading, else go for website trading. You can sell you domains in flippa, sedo and many other sites, and you can sell your sites in flippa

what you want to do is called "domaining" - you should look for it on google, then look for the big websites / forums / etc that deal with that topic.

Personally, I would say you are NOT ready to start - you don't know anything about what you are getting into and it looks like you are about to lose a lot of money.

As laowai tryed to point out to you: It is extremely unlikely you will find an available domain name with any value.

Most domainers are looking for qualities besides just a recognizable word: they look for domain age (your new domain would have 0 age), existing backlinks (again, you'd have 0). They also look for traffic and cpc for the words in the domain (this would be your only real shot at making a little money - if you got a domain that was an emd for a really great keyword).

Finally: if you have to worry about spending $5-15 to sell a domain, you do NOT have the budget to get into domaining. (or was your plan to buy $10 domains and sell them for $20? ;) )

I hope you do your research before you take the plunge, but best of luck to you anyway.

I think i get to excited with the fact that I can make cash...

Actually no lies, today i got an email asking about my domain that i bought 2 days ago!..

So how do i go about selling it?..
I gave him my price and now waiting for him to see what he says..

I read somewhere that if your domain is good, then you are going to get people coming to you..

SOMEONE came to me?:D

You can list on Sedo.com for free, although they will take a cut on the final selling price. I've sold a couple of domains on Sedo before. Also, take a look at the domain name sales lists compiled on DNJournal.com, where you can see what domains have sold for what prices (to get an idea). They only list domain sales starting from at least $X,XXX (i.e. four-figures).

How much did you make in selling on sedo?
is it quite a big cut?

I would first try to sell it on ebay.

Or contact your fellow competitors in your industry, and offer to throw it for sale. When you do decide to pitch the domain name to them, you may want to suggest reasons why your selling it, and what it can do for them.

List out your alternatives.

out of curiosity what were the domains that you sold?
I am currently auctioning them through godaddy... it is free to list but i am guessing they will take comission..
It is better than paying for a listing and then not getting any sales...

Unfortunately I can't reveal them (part of the condition of sale from the buyers).

Good luck with your efforts! I agree, unless you have a really premium domain name then it's better not to spend a lot of money on listing. You can also list it for free on popular domain-name forums like DomainState and NamePros.
 
How can they scam me out of this?... Surely they pay me and I wait until i see payment and then I give the domain to them? How does the whole domain swapping work?

There's no exact definition (it can be subjective), but it is generally a domain that can be expected to sell at higher-end prices ($X,XXX and above). Check DNJournal which lists domain sales above four-figures to see what kind of names they have: http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm

E.g. VPNServices.com is not a single-word domain but it sold for ?12,000. Or CostumesForHalloween.com which sold for $16,500.

There's still money to be made in lower level domaining. I've regularly bought and sold dropping domains at profit for years now. After a while you will start to be able to spot the winners and the losers more quickly. You're not going to be getting rich off it, but you can make some alright spare change if you're able to identify value in a domain. It's not overly hard to double your money for some easy pocket change. Do some Google searching like others said, there's much better forums out there dedicated to domaining, with established marketplaces where you'll have better luck flipping your domains as well as learning more about the trade.Being able to sell relies a little on your ability to market the potential of said domains too. If you can offer a domain with a some good selling points at a reasonable price, yyou'll probably do alright. Understand that every domain you buy is not going to sell, and don't be afraid to ditch these domains at some point for whatever money you can recoup out of them. Usually when I have given up on making a sale I will offer them for regfee. this clears a few extras out that I break even on, and After that just throw them up into dollar auctions. Better than just straight losing money on them. If you're new getting into it, don't be surprised if you see yourself buying a lot of shitty domains that don't sell. Everyone goes through that stage. The other option you have if you run into this problem is developing small sites to bring some value to the domains. Build the PR up a bit, get some backlinks and traffic going, then flip them. If you like this route, it can be taken with your better domains to build their potential value even higher too.

I think that domain names have been popular ever since the Internet began. Selling domain names can be great if you have the effective sales strategies for online marketing.
