Google to Punish Over Optimization

This is an interesting move by Google but not completely off the rocker for them. Last year they blocked search results from the co.cc domain because they believed they polluted the search results.
Google plans to penalize overly optimized sites because they want to level the playing field for other websites who do not concentrate on such efforts. Basically there are sites out there that completely focus their efforts on SEO and not content and those results would rank higher than sites that don?t focus on SEO.
Google Engineer Matt Cutts explains the following: ?We are trying to make GoogleBot smarter, make our relevance better, and we are also looking for those who abuse it, like too many keywords on a page, or exchange way too many links or go well beyond what you normally expect.?
The search engine at Google is about to go through a major overhaul and de-prioritizing sites with heavy SEO is just a small part in the big picture to bring better search results. The changes to the search engine will be coming in the next few months.

but since i am working on a real website not a spam for just ads i am not afraid of :)
 
Now you can always use it on your competitors. Matt is sucking balls now. SEO is dead.. !
 
You can't be penalized for things like spammy blog comments and profiles because in that case you'd be able to screw your competitors over. The most they can do is lower the effectiveness of these things.
 
lots of anchor text and links from lots of diff places. They have been singing this song for 7 years and their search results look just as bad as they did back then...

Agreed, they've been penalizing "overoptimization" for a while now.. :D
 
This doesn't seem any different than before. They are saying here they will punish sites with poorly written content optimised heavily for SEO. This is just them expanding on their panda update.

It appears that they are saying that they will punish sites that appear to be building too many unnatural links (in addition to content-related things like keyword stuffing).
 
The fun thing is, people will start optimizing towards 'nonoptimization', and guess what, that'll be the new SEO. And there we go again!
 
im loling a little at how serious people think this will be. its probably the easiest update to overcome (if it happens).

You're lettin' your ego go pretty strong. Next thing you know, you don't know what hit you haha.
 
I'm designing a postcard and having a store print up a bunch for direct mail. I like direct mail. If anyone can market their site offline, then they should. Be versatile if your site is the kind where you can be. Don't rely on just Google or other search engines because good search results can be gone in the blink of an eye.

It's not good when sites get penalized. That's why it's a good idea to be as versatile as possible. And if you think google is "free organic traffic," you're very mistaken. The money and person's time it takes to get good serps is nowhere near free.
 
I got annoyed when i read that OP, because I spend a few hours every single DAY optimizing my site, checking keywords, getting backlinks and all the usual things like that. So I do focus on SEO as i dont have a large Google Adwords budget. SEO brings me more than 90% of my website traffic.

And now Google wants to give sites that have NOT invested time and money into SEO for their website to level the playing field against sites like mine. WTF Google!


I feel if a site dosent put the effort into SEO, they should not get better or same rankings as a site that has put thousands of dollars and man hours into SEO.


How do you guys feel about it?
