i was reading the first page of this thread and decided that my next hosting company is hostwinds....until i clicked page 2 of this thread...

Yes we had around 3 hours of downtime on shared3 last week, bad things happen, no matter who your hosting company is. What sets companies apart is how they deal with the bad things that do happen

We worked continuously to get shared3 back online, while maintaining data integrity. I made the executive decision to go ahead and run an FSCK across the entire node, to ensure that the file system was completely stable before bringing the node back online. I could have easily done like many providers do and brought the node back online without completely checking the file system. Chances are 95% of you would have been 100% ok with 0 data loss. I however had to think about the 5% that could have penitentialy lost data. The entire node hosting that shared container went offline, because of a Power Supply failure. This type of failure meant that all of the information data etc that was in the memory of the server would have been lost. I know many of you may think this isnt a big deal, but when you servers have 256 gigabytes of RAM, it becomes more of a problem. I am very sorry to everyone who was affected by the outage. I however was very pleased with our response, we were aware of the outage a mere 37 seconds after the server went down and we had the server with a brand new power supply online running the FSCK in around 25 minutes.

We gave all affected clients a free month hosting, and we kept our client informed of the situation throughout the duration of the outage. I know that is more than most hosting providers can say.

Hey im looking for a new hosting company, What plan would you recommend for a site averaging around 10k visits per day?? (sometimes this spikes even higher)

We had no downtimes at all yesterday :confused:

Please PM me the ticket number you had open, or a copy of your uptime reports indicated downtime

I can't open a reseller hosting account until I see some stability, and according to the link above on server status, it doesn't look to good. If you could let me know something I don't know, then maybe you can sway me to purchase a year worth of hosting.

You can buy month to month

Unsure how you get instability from the server status page...... we must reboot the servers after kernel upgrades

I was try to buy ultimate web hosting.. and when I applied the coupon code "BHWHOSTYEAR" .. it says..
"The promotion code you entered has been applied to your cart but no items qualify for the discount yet - please check the promotion terms"

Is this offer no more active? or am I using the wrong code?

thanks

I was looking for an adult friendly host and found Hostwinds recommendation, and I'm glad I switched!! I used the promo code for 1 year and I got a 35% discount!

They did all the free migration for me and the customer service is top notch! I had some issues with some databases and DNS and they went the extra mile to make sure I was 100% happy! Thank you Dan for all your assistance.

HOSTWINDS very recommended!! A+++:D

I have a question... Do you guys need a government ID or any ID for that matter for me to be able to use this service? I am pissed with Hostgator because they won't allow me to use cpanel or my account in general because I haven't scanned an ID. I don't even have a government ID to begin with...

Is this a general rule on all hosting services? Or Hostwinds doesn't follow the same rule. If not, I'd buy this RIGHT NOW because I need it now.. :(

We do not require verification, except on high risk orders paid via credit card

I am also willing to dump GoFaggy and I am looking for a company that offers hosting services.

Prices are good I am going to jump in and test out the services.

One thing is dissapointing the design of your website. It's like a website from the past... 2001-2003 :)

My two cents.

I'm already a hostwind happy customer! but i'd love to know if it's scrapebox friendly. anyone using scrapebox in hostwinds VPS?

I'm gonna be giving some sort of review here..

First of all, I'm starting to dive into the world of IM. I've been writing articles and earning quite a few. Trying to invest on micro niche sites. So I needed hosting... I first signed up with Hostgator. Let me tell you that IT WAS THE WORST DECISION I'VE MADE IN MY LIFE.

Hostgator's support is PATHETIC. They held my domain HOSTAGE for 2 days. They were asking me for a Government ID which I didn't have. So I told them to just release my website (which is still to be developed)... They didn't allow it. So I never GOT TO LOG IN my Cpanel or billing account in Hostgator because I wasn't "verified". That was until I threatened them, they eventually gave in and released me from Gator and gave a refund.

That was when I found Hostwinds! Guys this is the best hosting service in the planet. The support is AMAZING. I talked to Peter on Skype and even though he was very busy, he still found time to answer my noobish questions. But what really blew me away was the amazing Support team they have. I opened a Live Chat and his staff was very patient with me and helped me throughout the whole process. PLUS Hostwinds saved my hostaged website from Hostgator. The Support staff even taught me a few things about IM and hosting/domain in general.

Overall, I think I made the right decision choosing Hostwinds and ditching Hostgator. The support here is unbelievable. I will be a long-term customer here for sure. More power!
