We moved to a new home about a month or so ago and have a much larger yard than we had at our previous home and also my office has a window that faces out to the back fenced in yard.
We have a few bird feeders out there and the local squirrels like to eat the bird feed that falls to the ground.
Well, it seems Teedie, our youngest Japanes Chin, has taken up the responsibity of making sure that the squirrels stay in the trees and when she sees them she takes off after them.
She can't catch them and would not have any idea what to do with them if she did either but she chases after them several times a day.
No matter how many times she chases she still can't catch them.
It is just not her skill set.
I see that often with people here... you talk about wanting to make 10K a month with your sites or your methods but you are not making anywhere near that and honestly never will if you are not working with what you have.
Odds are it is not because you are not trying but rather you fail to access your skill set and use that to your strengths. You try and cover all bases when building as site... design, content, onsite SEO, off site SEO, KW research etc.
Some people have all those skills (I'm not one of them, ask anyone who has seen me design a site) but that is pretty rare.
A case in point is an accountant. Most people think that an acountant is a very boring person and that they have no personality. Truth be told they do have personality they just do not express themselves generally as they are "numbers" guys and not "wordsmiths".
A good accountant with the proper degrees can make very good money doing their numbers thing though.
Be a smart IMer and use what skills you have to your advantage.
Are you good at design but suck at KW research?
Make a deal with a KW guy.
Do you write like a champ but can't do of site SEO to save your life?
Make deal with an SEO guy.
You can outsource without it costing you a dime if you are trading your strength for another's strength and you both can benefit in the long run.
Outsourcing your skill set in return for something that you are terrible at can really make your IM career rock and roll.
So, don't be like Teedie and chase those squirrels all day long... realize you have limitations and take a skill set inventory and work within your skill set while trading out/outsourcing that which you need because that is how you will become successful... not only in your IM career but in a lot of other areas of your life as well.
