Help out a newbie?

Hi Black Hatters,

I'm doing SEO work for a small company that has a few websites all operating in the same niche. I've done pretty well so far - the on-page is looking good and we've been building backlinks steadily with good results.

Essay over.

My question is this: how do you go about approaching bloggers to get links placed on their sites? Should I only target blogs relevant to our niche, or target popular sites and suggest that we will pay them a nominal sum for the link?

Send email to webmaster and ask for it.The best is similar blogs to your niche but and a link from a not related to your niche blog but high pr is also good

This is a waste of time, because those with a higher PR than you will not trade, and anyone lower than you does you little good, because the links are reciprocal. If it is an unrelate niche, it is even more of a waste of time. You need quality one way backlinks from related sites.

To place links you have to find good quality autoapprove blogs
And leave comments including your link in content .
And for niche related doest matter much in ranking
Any backlink will give boost to keyword if its quality backlink with low OBL

sldebo - I was not talking about reciprocal linking, otherwise why would I suggest paying for them?

I have already dismissed this kind of backlinking as I work for commercial sites and such links would be inappropriate.

I am referring to the kind of blogs which we can already comment on but the process of manually commenting is too time consuming to be considerable profitable.

Quality one way links do not include blog comments as far as I aware - hence my question.

Sorry, I completely misread the question. If Google finds out that you are paying money for links they will de-index your site. They will probably not catch you, but there is that possibility.

OK, so I modify my answer:

Contact blogs and websites in your niche and offer a guest post for their blog or a free article for their site. I never pass these up, if they are quality and fit my sites..

Register with HARO and Picthrate, and watch the incoming requests for anything related to your niche that benefits you. When you see one, make a pitch immediately. You can actually pull down free interviews from this as well.

Go to all your suppliers and see if they have an online directory of distributors, and make sure your site link is in your listing on their site if they allow it.

Mae sure that you are listed o all your usual business directories that apply to your niche.

Approach the other sites you want to have a link for and ask if they will display a banner ad for your company. If they will, make banner telling about your company and run the ad on these sites. That is the only way I know of to buy links and not get caught (unless you join a paid directory like Yahoo.) These links are temporary, so try to get an ad for a year.

Offer a free sample of your product or service for a positive review from the higher quality related niches. Be sure to specify a time frame for the review to appear.

If you are technology related niche, I have a PR5 site I will add a link to for you for free, or you can write an article for me and put your links there.

Many thanks (and reps) for your detailed response, I must say it's rare to encounter an SEO forum where the users are actually helpful! I've drawn up a to do list with your tips, I did the directories a a while ago but I guess it never hurts to go back to basics.

Good point re: paying for links, and one of the reasons I posted the question here. We do have a blog on the site so that might be a good shout actually.

My suggestion to get more quality backlinks:
You must give some value to that site/blogs where you try to get backlinks from.
Example you can offer to blog owners you will write good article to add in his site, of course with your backlink. This can be done if your niche is your niche is not high competition.
Other example: You can offer to blog/website owners example make competition in their webpage/blog to win gift card or something.
And another way is what i heard couple days ago in one affiliate conference was: You need buy backlinks and also you need low quality backlinks like forum profiles. It is also depends how old are your sites.
