Before you guys post in megauploads defense... or against megaupload.....

READ the indictment.

It is clear they were peddling copyrighted material and profiting from it.
They admit it.... in emails intercepted by the authorities.

Go read the indictment..... and stop posting BS.

I dont know the details, I dont see how the authorities were able to intercept emails, arrest people in another country and shut down a major site so easily.

Also was there a trial yet. Sorry if i am kinda slow but i dont see certain details.

I really do not see any difference. Both having ads revenue from copyrighted content displaying pages.

They were indicted in the U.S. and the new Zealand police arrested them so they can be extradited to the U.S. to face charges. If they are found not guilty by the jury, then there assets and websites will be returned and they will not go to prison.

Damn, I actually had real files on their server, lol. I must have been the 10% that was legit, lol. I wonder who is next..

You need to think in a more broad perspective.
This investigation has been on going for a long time.
It did not happen yesterday...
and definitely has nothing to do with SOPA.

When this happens ... there are always informants.
People on the inside tipped them to what was going on.

Nothing motivates a snitch more than when his boss is making millions off of something illegal..... while the snitch gets paid $10 an hour.

So definitely they had someone on the inside to bring down Megaupload.

Trust me--- I am from Laredo-- home of the cartels.
Everytime a drug dealer goes down.... it is because of a lowly paid worker
that snitches because he sees the dealer get rich while he only makes peanuts.

The fact that they had servers on US soil.... opened up for the US to go after them much easier.

This is the first time I herd of anything like this happening. Sounds similar to SOPA/PIPA to me

It has nothing to do with online or not. If the guy ran a offline ring where he was selling bootleg dvd's the same thing could happen. The assets would be seized and the buildings where the dvd's were sold would also be seized.

this war is started by rupert murdoch who against google and another.

he doesn't like if free website can get billion overnight..

Read the indictment.... and you will see that there is a difference
between Mega and facebook.

Really.... go read it.

Read what ? If it is there explain it here.

Both is totally same. Both getting revenue from other people content without paying them a single penny. Now if you say me that youtube is paying i ask you that how much percent of the copyright holders getting paid ?

1/1000 ? 1/10000 ? And facebook paying 0 as far as i know.

If there were not pirate action the internet or the computer tech would never be at this position.

How many of you would upgrade your pc if you could not download new games and play or watch new HD movies etc. If there were 0 pirate action i can clearly say that the current tech would be 1/10 of current.

I am not a big supporter of piracy but we need to think about realities . Do the content owner getting revenue , earning big the answer is mostly yes. So they should be happy. A person having millions of dollars without actually producing real things such as farms or factories how fair ? while others dying from hunger. So they should be a bit happy with their earnings and not expect everybody to pay maybe 100x more than what they are worth of.

I can't tell you enough that the way the Internet is being RAPED by America really saddens me.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, MADE the WWW PURELY to be free from censorship! For most of us on BHW the internet is OUR LIVES, certainly mine! I knew this day was coming, just not this soon.

Sorry, but, FUCK AMERICA.

Idiot, show more respect. If it weren't for America, there would be NO internet.

So you asked The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia a permission to link to their copyrighted content? Scribd.com is making money out of copyrighted content, shouldn't they be next in line to go down after Megaupload?
