Megaupload has been shut down.

i think it just sets a scary precedent. Sopa/pipa that is. It like using an industrial vacuum to clean up one cheerio crumb. The problem is what else potentially gets sucked up in the process.

this was not an act of censorship!!

why the fuck is everyone here bashing US government?? This wasn't censorship, they simply shut their servers down. MegaUpload is simply not in business anymore because it was breaking laws.

Publishing someone else's content and charging people to view it. Go ahead, make an argument how that's fair.

As simple as it is.... people want to argue against that.

Megaupload broke the law, and now it paid the price.

Please read or at least skim over the indictment.

These guys were idiots, emailing each other, making it clear that they were hosting copyright content. Making it clear they new about it. Making it clear they hid the content from being in the searches.

And in one message, the head guy, bashes the other guys for deleting links to copyright material, stating that it lowers revenue.
Talk about just making a business out of piracy.

Mega upload is fuked.
and it is nobodies fault but their own.

You guys need to grow up and deal with it.

blah blah blah.... a company made an investment, created a product, and sold it to people. Fair? Fair.

Now, a group of people decided that somehow that's not fair so they basically took their product, repackaged, and sold it to other people meanwhile making profits.

HOW IS THAT FAIR?

Thats how life works, do you think most people became rich because one of the other billion humans on earth did not had the same idea?

And i dont even want to start talking about fairness regarding the global players (which you are supporting as far as i understand).

Fuck you.

I had EVERYTHING backed up there. Photos - every photo I had ever taken. I just recently lost 1000 of them because my external crashed. My music (yes MY files). Documents I needed. Files used for work. EVERYTHING. Are they going to give me my stuff back?

Sorry to hear that.
I actually did not have anything hosted there.

A short time ago, I was asking people if they had premium access to megaupload, did a post right here on BHW.

I wanted to host my videos there.

But, after I check their site, I came to the conclusion that there was something shady. I felt that the risk was too much to host with them.

So I did not.

I guess my hunch was right.

what are you saying? Thieves are inevitable and we should just let it slide??

Did you read the news ? It is not about us or any country. FBI has full power at every country.

to those of you that helped upload stuff for the rewards program...

Read the indictment.... it has something in reference to you guys there...
and you are probably not going to like it.

These guys were douche bags.

Also who defense the shut down , they also should prepare themselves for shut down of youtube because it is basically swarm of copyrighted content lol

Guys, I'm sorry, but they had it coming.

I mean the dude made 42 mill on OTHER PEOPLES PRODUCT that was also being sold at the same time.

I can understand if dude actually gave a percentage of the money he made to other content owners, but he didn't.

None of the people who created the content got ONE PENNY of that money.

The motherfuka had 10 benzs for crying out loud!!

So in all honesty, he's just as greedy as he's claiming the content producer are!

So yeah, if you guys don't like it because its a little harder for you to get that, tough luck!

Ask dude to let you pirate his bank account. Then you'll see the REAL Kim come out. It was ALL for the money.

NOT "INTERNET FREEDOM!"

You guys fell for there propaganda, they profited.

Laws on the content creators side, not Megaupload.

THEY HAD IT COMING!!

not really.

If there was an American site that posted copyrighted content from Sweden, I'm sure Sweden would be interested in what we're doing as well...
oh wait, Sweden doesn't produce shit in entertainment world. They have nothing to lose with the current state of rampant piracy...

Check this out.... from the indictment ..... copy and paste.

"On or about January 28, 2010, in an e-mail entitled "activating oldcountries," a user of a Mega Conspiracy site asked BATATO: "where can we see full movies?"BATATO replied "You need to go to our referrer sites. Such as www.thepiratecity.org orwww.ovguide.com[.] There are the movie and series links. You cannot find them by searchingon MV directly. That would cause us a lot of trouble ;-)"

fukin idiot.

Whats your point? #2

I did not even slightly imply that in my postings and im done talking to you, because i tend not to waste my time with failures (i.e. you).

The real reason for the shutdown is in bold below:
http://torrentfreak.com/megaupload-swizz-beatz-120120/ said:
One of the many unanswered questions regarding the MegaUpload shutdown today is what happens to the company's new CEO?

A few days ago MegaUpload surprised friends and foes by listing rapper/producer Swizz Beatz as CEO. Beatz is not named in the indictment which was made on January the 5th, which may have saved him.

Beatz was one of the stars who endorsed MegaUpload in public, and he reportedly recruited several artists for the Mega Song promotion.

Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean, is married to R&B superstar Alicia Keys, and won his first Grammy Award in 2011 with Jay Z for the song "On To The Next One." Aside from working at MegaUpload, Beatz is also producing Dr. Dre's highly anticipated third studio album Detox.

Beatz's appointment connected MegaUpload to many of the biggest musicians in the business. This could have come in handy as MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom was working on a plan to crush the major "dinosaur" labels, who he says are not giving musicians what they deserve.

Mega's competing music venture is/was called Megabox, a site that would soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers. And unlike the traditional record deals where artists get only a fraction of the revenue, with Megabox the musicians would get to keep 90% of earnings.

Needles to say, the raids and arrests today delayed this plan.

So they were about to launch a new service/product which would give 90% of profits to artists. I guess the RIAA wasn't too happy with that?

because your post made absolutely no sense

what global players are you talking about???

The kids over at anon are dumb as fuck ddosing government sites - that has exactly zero effect other than to get the more newbish members doors kicked in when they get raided.

I really dont like that the US government, and its corporate puppet masters are reaching into other countries to enforce their money making strategies. The copyright/IP system is fatally flawed, and needs to be updated to work within a digital world. This could result in more artists getting paid better, getting paid directly, and a faster development of content and products. The government is supposed to work for you, but make no mistake these actions are not about safeguarding jobs, they are about maintaining the status quo for the exceptionally rich top of the media foodchain.

There is a simple message that is understood by these people, its called the bottom line.

For Americans, take back your country, you were a proud nation, but your prosperity and future have been stolen from you. I'm sorry for your loss, I love your people, and your ideals, but you are being duped.

For non-Americans, buy local products, support businesses which run in your own country and contribute to your societies fabric. With globalization its sometimes hard to know where the money goes, but use your common sense. Don't buy into the media dominated world view that's piped into you brain 24/7, check out the culture in the rest of the world, its far superior. Supporting local business will generate jobs for your friends and family and help your country while reducing the US corporate influence which has over the past decades corrupted and poisoned the world.

The world needs to start waking up to the fact that the laws and governments belong to the people, and their function is not to protect vested interests and the finances of those rich enough to afford lobbyists rather to improve the quality of life for all humans.

If Anon wanted to be smart about protesting this, they would make a site where it was possible to list the US products you have given up in favor of indigenous products, with a nice running total of the cost to the US economy as a result of their governments global bully status.

no no no no no no no....

what don't you people understand??? MegaUpload was breaking a law by profiting from copyrighted content that didn't belong to them!!!

A LAW WAS BROKEN. THESE ARE THE CONSEQUENCES.

there's no fucking conspiracy by the global elite to keep artists poor.

Again, your not seeing the bigger picture.

Atleast the Major record compnays actually pay the artists what they owe (after advance recoupements).

KIM DIDN'T GIVE THE CONTENT PRODUCERS A DIME OF THAT MONEY HE HAS EARNED IN THE FIRST YEARS OF MEGAUPLOAD!!!!!

NOT-----

ONE-----

PENNY------

So yeah, until you guys can justify that, anything you try and put up as an argument fails miserably!

Not even the swiss beats argument holds any water.

Sorry!!

I really dont like that the US government, and its corporate puppet masters are reaching into other countries to enforce their money making strategies.

"money making strategies"?? That money belonged to US in the first place...we're not making money off of other countries by doing this.

The copyright/IP system is fatally flawed, and needs to be updated to work within a digital world. This could result in more artists getting paid better, getting paid directly, and a faster development of content and products.

true, but promoting piracy and saying "fuck those corporations" is the worst way to do it.

The government is supposed to work for you, but make no mistake these actions are not about safeguarding jobs, they are about maintaining the status quo for the exceptionally rich top of the media foodchain.

I stopped reading at this point... you're right, piracy is the right thing to do
